Unable to configure internet connection on windows vista
I have been using a 'Netopia 3342' modem with Windows XP for my internet connection. Now I have a new pc with Windows Vista and i am trying to configure the same on my new pc using the disk provided by the ISP. But i am not successful.. even though connection is esblished, IE does not open any sites. Is this an issue of compatibility of windows vista and the modem? What could be the problem?

this device may not work in the 64 bit mode because it is a 32 bit device and the driver may not be available for it in the 64 bit mode. The manufacturer is the place to get the up dated drivers. I suggest using the device in the Windows Vista or XP mode and the drivers should work for this device.
This is an older unit and drivers are not available for any OS beyond XP service pack 1. You can try to use the XP drivers in windows 7, but this is not recommended as they may not work, and you may experience other problems such as crashes and system instability.
this is not a Windows issue the is a IP issue. You will need to see if you have an IP Internet Protocol ) address for the connection to be successful. You will have to do a ipconfig /all to see if you have media connection. this is done by logging in to the router modem via a browser window ( internet Explorer FireFox) using the IP address 192.168.0.1 this will bring you to the router GUI (graphical user interface) if you haven't entered a password just type "admin' the 1st field then enter no password ne needed. there is a release/renew button there click and this will release a new IP address for you to connect with. You will also need to configure your browser for the internet 1. for Windows XP here is the setup : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/default.mspx 2. For Windows 7 here is the setup instructions: getting online and networking http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/networking-e-mail-getting-online
If this is a DSL Gateway Router, check the settings on the modem and make sure that the DHCP server is enabled.
it woould be of great help if you could provide the exact model number of the Netopia modem so that I could check if there is configuration page which you can access and check the settings..
