Honeywell thermostat does not trigger heat pump compressor

Heat pump is not running. Power to heat pump is good. Thermostat says "Heat On" but heat pump compressor is not running. Electric heat running instead. Technician changed the compressor delay to 1 minute rather than 5 today and compressor came on and ran fine. After he left, I set the temp lower and now compressor does not come on, but electic heat is on.

SOURCE: honeywell round mercury thermostat - heat not coming on

If you tip the mercury switch so that it makes contact and the furnace doesn't start, it isn't the t-stat. Check the connections, then start checking the furnace.
In any case, ditch the mercury t-stat (recycle it properly) and get a new programmable one if at all posible. It will pay for itself many times over by turning your heat down in the middle of the night and back up by morning.

SOURCE: thermostat does not stop heat pump unit

Most of these problems are the program settings on these way overcomplicated thermostats. You will need to re-read the instructions on setting the programs. Or bite the bullet and buy a cheaper and simpler one. If you installed it yourself, make sure the settings on the inside are correct, like gas/electric heat, and 24 volts, stuff like that.

SOURCE: heat pump auxiliary heat does not turn on

Turn up your outside thermostat in the outside unit.
You should have about 3 degrees difference in one stage to the next. So I would change the thermosat with one that has three stages of heat.

Heat pump compressor/fan/air handler runs heat for 30 secs, then all stop. (Trane XR 11 HP w/honeywell T8411R thermostat). Capacitor good, new 5-2-1 hard-start kit added but didn't solve problem.

Sounds like low pressure. Are you losing low voltage to condenser? Backup heat not working likely due to a setting error or possibly a wiring issue.

Why does my American Standard heat pump compressor and condenser fan run when I have the thermostat set to emergency heat?

It's possible the "brain" thinks it can still supply some heat. Other wise there is a wiring problem or thermostat switch problem. Installed recently? Never used emergency heat before? What is your emergency heat type, gas or electric? Are you sure they are working. If not the "brain" senses and uses the only source available: heat pump. Thermostat? probably Honeywell? If so call Mfg customer service. Warranty on thermostat or heat pump? If so call customer service. Call your installer.

Compressor relay switch

What temperature is this heat pump being run at? If it is low ambient temp outside this may be running in what is called defrost mode to where the compressor will run without a call for heat. This seems normal to me as long as the setpoint temperature is being reached.

Heat Pump - blows heat to set temp, then off, then kicks on to blow cold

Heat pumps defrost which is the AC mode, if the heat strip isnt working during a defrost, the air will be cold, A heat pump only feels warm if the heat strips are on too! the refrigeration cycles heat output is much less sensible to our 98F skin. heat pumps that satisfy a room setpoint are working at least, all heat pumps feel drafty to most.

Honeywell Thermostat RTH6350 makes heat run in AC mode after AC runs

Well, if it wasn't doing that before then you more than likely know its in your wiring. Cools down then heats back up sounds like the auto change over is on, and the heat setting is higher than the cool setting?

Changed battery in Honeywell thermostat last night due to "replace battery warning". This AM, no heat. Other zones were working so I am thinking that I did not properly reinstall thermostat. At...

Check to see that it is mounted back correctly, and check the red and white wires as they actually run the heat portion from the thermostat. The clicking sounds as though you may have a broken wire or a loose wire. It can not be anything to difficult as it worked prior to changing the battery. Keep it simple and I am sure that you will find the culprit. Good luck.

Want to replace manual thermostat with programmable.

you can use a 5 wire heat pump thermostat.

Must be heatpump thermostat
red is 24 volt power
white is aux/emergency heat these usually will need to be jumped together
Green is fan
yellow is compressor contactor
blue is reversing valve
you just don't have a common so some thermostats will not work.
get one with batteries
