Maytag Gemini Electric Oven - Lower is not locked, but will not open.

I was baking in both ovens this evening. After removing a baking sheet from the lower oven and closing the door, I could not get the oven door to re-open. I tried setting the oven to "clean" waited for the oven display to read, "Loc" then cancelled the cleaning, thinking the oven door might unlock. No such luck. It does not seem as tightly closed as when the "Loc" feature is on. For example, I can pull the door open enough to make the inner light turn on. I am not getting any codes. Everything else seems fine. Thank you for any suggestions.

Usually, starting with a COLD oven, turn the self clean on. Wait 3 minutes, then turn it off [cancel] WAIT 1 minute at least, do not immediately pull on the door. This should reset the lock sync. If you cannot get it open still, you may have a faulty sensor that thinks the oven is overheated, or at this point you could have a bent actuator rod from all the tugging!

SOURCE: Maytag Gemini Stove Code F1-4 (bottom door won't open)

F-1 error is a Temperature Runaway. It Maytag's way of letting you know that oven overheated. Nothing you have done but it may have shorted out the oven sensor or the keypad. Check the sensor and see if it's closed. If it's okay, replace the keypad.

Where is the model number/ serial number located on the Maytag Gemini?

Open the door and look at the very bottom, front of range. If yours have a drawer it will be located behind the drawer right under the bake door, on the oven frame.

After temp is set bottom oven will not heat up to desired temp

you probably have a burnt out or shorted out lower bake element in you r lower oven. it sometimes will actually break apart or look like it sparked thru the black tubular section. it is common and will cause no heat during the bake cycle.
you could try to do a broil and see if it gets hot and that would let you know the control is ok and just needs the lower bake element.

You probably need to replace the baking igniter, (Igniter, bake burner
Part Number: AP4102011 made by MAYTAG).

I tested the igniter function by (CAREFULLY) jerry rigging a bridge to wire the BAKE igniter to the BROILER controls. (Push/click plugs accessible by opening up the stove back) Testing the broiler controls this way the bake element remained cold. I then did the same test but connected the BROILER igniter to the BAKE controls and got a good glow. This indicates that the controls work but the Bake igniter's faulty!

You can access the bake igniter by removal of 2 screws at the front at the platform just inside the top oven. The broil and bake igniters appear to be identical but the push/click plugs are reversed at the back of the stove. (hence the CAREFUL jerry rigged wiring bridge.) The parts and wiring are pretty simple and visual once you get the covers off. Opening up the stove back is just a matter of removing several screws. UNPLUG the stove before you work. If you test as I described, make all connections while UNPLUGGED and then plug it in only for the brief test. Unplug again while disconnecting/reconnecting. Hope this helps.

Cannot figure out how to make oven work

Hi, try this and see if will help you. Most of the Gemini models are the same.

To set Bake:
1. Press the Bake pad.
• BAKE will flash.
• 000 will flash in the display.
2. Select the oven temperature. Press the
Autoset 0 pad for 350° F or the appropriate
number pads.
• Each additional press of the Autoset 0 pad will increase
the temperature by 25 degrees.
• The oven temperature can be set from 170° to 550°.
3. Press Bake pad again or wait four seconds.
• BAKE will stop flashing and light in the display.

Maytag gemini MER6769BAW

Power to that element comes directly from the oven control. If you have replaced the element and all wiring is ok then the control is bad even if you hear it clicking. The part # is 74006213 and cost is $298.99 @ http://www3.sears.com/.
Part # for http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=48695 is AP377973 and their price is $230.53.
