The running cycle for this type of trash compactor is a max of about 30secs. The fuller the bag is the shorter the cycle. However, if this is not how yours is running try checking to see if there is any trash stuck between the ram and the basket. Or make sure that the foot peddle is still staying in the "up" position.

Ge profile trash comapctor loud banging noice

You have something wrapped on the compactor screw assembly (The assembly is a threaded rod about 24 inches long and 3/4 inch in diameter. ). Most likely it is plastic bag or some other plastic. Pull the entire compactor out (remove the hold down screws first). Then look for the obstruction on the screw assembly, cut it off and try while not in the compactor hole to make sure it works.

I have a GE trash compactor I have to hold up the foot pedal for it to work. When I let it go the compactor stops. thank you

There is a spring that holds up the pedal. It is broken or has come apart. By the pedal in the up position it is a safety switch allowing the compactor to run. You may have to repair this or simply put a small block under the pedal of the unit to run.
I hope my suggestions helps and all the luck to you.

My ge profile 15" compactor stopped compacting. I

The "wheel" has a cracked center that you can not see unless you take the whole gear off.( I am assuming the "wheel" is off the motor and should be driving the chain that goes to the side gears ) There is a tension washer looking thing that holds it on and you can force it off with a flat screwdriver. Once off, I'm sure you'll see the center of the gear( hex shaped) is not engaging the hex gear shaft for being broken somewhere. An appliance repair store should have that part for less than $50. Sure beats the $85 the service people start with for just a service call.

GE trash compactor ZCG3100BVV-02 won't start. I out a new on/off switch and it still will not start

Most likely a ram position switch but could also be a bad motor. process of elimination will lead to the faulty component...Eric

GE Profile trash compactor is stuck

This has happened a couple times to me and the fix is fairly simple. The problem is the trash ram is pushing down on the edge of the metal of the trash compartment because the door is partially open. The solution is to back-up the ram the the door will close.

To back-up the ram, you will need to pull the compactor out from under your cabinets and unplug it. Turn the compactor on it's side to expose the bottom. There is a plate on the bottom that covers the motor gears. Remove the plate and turn the large gear counter-clockwise to back-up the ram screws (at least this is how it works on my model works). The gears are a little greasy so you may need to add some after messing with the gears.

Good luck.

Here is an assembly drawing of your compactor.. Please note item # 102 ( direction switch) ..That may be affecting the perfomance of your motor or your motor may have a dead spot on the windings.. Here is a link to a website for parts that coincide with this drawing.. There isn't an awful lot to a compactor in terms of hardware so good luck.. Hope this helps..
