Kurt- I have successfully completed a d-i-y battery door replacement on my Canon A1100IS, and I make no claims about being an "expert." My training was watching u-tube videos of guys disassembling digital cameras (other models). Here's how to open the case on the A1100is, which is not really much different than opening the case on most any compact digital camera.
Using a size #0000 phillips screwdriver (Sears sells a set of 6 minis--slotted and phillips--for $10), I removed the nine screws from the side and bottom of the case plus one inside the mini-usb cover and the one inside the battery compartment.
Then, I gently worked the front and rear of the case apart (the top of the case halves have two snap clips that hold them together. Unlike some cameras, the A1100IS does not have any flexible cable straps between its front and rear covers.
With the case halves removed, I then used a tweezers to move the straight end of the hinge spring out of its original place next to the tripod socket. That released spring pressure on the hinge and I could then easily remove the hinge pin with the tweezers.
Then, it's simply a matter of placing the replacement door's hinge/spring combo in the proper location and inserting the hinge pin to hold it there. I purchased a new door from Canon for $8.42 plus shipping). Then, I used the tweezers to position the straight hinge spring end in the slot next to the tripod socket.
The only thing left was to wipe my fingerprints off of the LCD screen and then gently replace the front and rear case halves--snapping the case's top together and then replacing the nine screws.

How do I replace the canon sd40 battery door. it wont stay hooked, looks like a pice broke off in the hinge

Ebay was selling one for a few dollars in working condition, you are better off buying a used one or a none working one making sure the battery door is good. You can replace the battery door but it will require you to take the front and rear cover of the camera off. You will have to take off the little screws all around the camera and the pry apart the front and rear case.
Sometimes you can use a pair of small needle nose pliers and just squeeze the ends of the plastic battery door inwards from the hinge and the battery cover should pop out. To install the new battery door you do the same, squeeze the plastic axle and push it into the cameras case.

Battery cover door replace

Canon will send you a new one for free or minimal cost. There is a pin that acts as a hinge. push it out from the side with a paperclip or very small screwdiver or punch. reinstall the new door in reverse careful of the spring. Some cameras, there's a screw holding the door on, in this case the new door will include the hinge.

Need to replace battery door.

i have not replaced the battery door but have disassembled an S5000 following the service manual

it looks like once you complete the first step 'Removing the R CABINET ASSY' you can withdraw the hinge pin and replace the battery cover without any more disassembly [see attached image]

How do you replace the door on a Canon PowerShot A1100IS?

Take it to a camera or electronics store that does service work. They should be able to order the replacement parts and let you know if it is financially better to repair or replace the camera.

How to replace battery door on canon a640?

I not completed this yet but I have the new door in hand. I got this from online.

Battery door replacement on this model will require removal of both front and rear case, fairly straight forward remove all screws and seperate case. You will see that door is kept in place by a small metal rod, which will slide out and allow defective door to be removed and new door to be installed(note location of spring before removing).

Remove battery door of Canon A630

This is an old A70, but the way it's done is very similar as I don't think this has changed much over the years. It's a pin design that you have to push out with a stiff unbent paperclip. You push in on the side with the smaller hole. To access the pin you'll need to remove the front and back case covers. See the following:

Replacing battery cover door on Canon AL-1

Very easy to replace door. Remove base plate (3 screws). Remove 1 screw found in battery compartment. Lift corner of battery compartment (right where you took the screw out) up about 1/4". No more or you will break the opposite corner. Use a piece of picture hanging wire and push the hinge pin from the outside toward the inside until you can grab it with tweezers and pull it right out. Rest is simple.

Canon A75 Battery door

Never did it on an S1, but on other models it required removing the back face of the camera to access the battery doory hinge pin.

Examine your camera, and if this sounds feasible, remove all screws along the perimeter of the camera (keeping track of their sizes and where they came from, write it down with a crude drawing of their locations/sizes). Also look for screws in the battery compartment, and any visible screws behind flaps/doors. Once all perimeter screws are removed, you should be able to remove the back face of the camera by prying it open from the bottom. Once opened, the pin holding the battery door should be able to be slid out, enabling removal of the old door. Then in reverse slide the pin into the new door, and reassemble the camera and its screws.

Canon A75 Battery door

There is a pin that holds the battery door down, it might be removable without taking the case apart, other wise split the case and remove the pin and put the new door.
