My HP officejet pro L7580 has stopped printing black. The cartridge has been replaced ( HP original) . Other colours are fine. Printheads are fine. Error message on display: Alignment failed - Refer to product documentation for details. Usermanual does not mention this message. Have tried to clean connections and reset. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

On this HP the print head is not part of the cartridge. How do you know the print head is fine? Did you just try to do a test page without an alignment?
I know that HP (they suck) will not help you because you are past warranty - Google your question since I am sure that you are not the only person to have experienced this issue.
I think you have a bad print head.

Hello

To keep the printer such a time time, dried ink cartridges, if it has ink, then put the cartridges into warm water and put them back after dry. otherwise you need to replace cartridges.
Refill is also an option.

Same as some other complaints at your site about this printer/aio

Your printer does indeed have cartridges...4 in fact, along with 2 printheads. 1 printhead is for Magenta/cyan. The other for Black/yellow.

You know where the printheads are. The ink cartridges are below them. There is a door that pulls down to expose all four.

Here is a link to HP Support for changing your ink cartridges: L7580 Ink Cartridge

Consider XL cartridges...they last much longer.

Also, for reference, here is a link to the User Guide for your printer: L7580 User Guide

Black Ink won't print

Try cleaning the printheads:

On the control panel press Setup>Select Tools>Select Clean Printhead

If that doesn't work, try manual cleaning the printhead contacts. This begins on page 147 of the User Guide.

Can we print with other three Color ink cartridges when Black Ink cartridge is emptied?

hi,

as u have ran out of ink you cant print anymore... you have to replace a new ink cartridge.... this is because when u print something, the colors will get mixed to print the exact color.... even if u are printing only in black, some other colors wil get mixed to produce the black color on the paper... so u need to change the ink cartridge.... u cannot run with a blank filled ink cartridge.... and the selection of your printer is very good...

thanks and regards
