The fabric softner leaks near the top of machine near the control right side, near the dial and control panel. All softner leaves the dispenser within the machine, however; it leaks only near the dial and the top of the washer where it connects to the big square bottom part.

You have to do it manually. Ugh. See below from manual:
Liquid Fabric Softener (Manually add during rinse cycle) 1. Turn OPTIONS knob to FABRIC SOFTENER 2. Measure liquid fabric softener carefully, following instructions on the bottle, and add during the rinse cycle.
OPTIONS (on some models) Set this option when planning to manually add fabric softener during the rinse cycle or when you use extra detergent or bleach to clean hazily soiled items. It provides an enhanced rinse.
Check and see if there is a cup in the top of the agitator. Some machines have you put it there, turning back and forth during wash doesn't bother it, but the spin to empty the wash water causes the softener to go out through slots in the top of the cup and be held in the agitator. when it stops the softener drains into the tub, ready for the rinse cycle.
your cup is most likely stuck in the open position due to buildup of fabric softener. Pour two cups of very hot [200 degrees farenheit] water into it and repeat until it works as it should. J.
You really cant take them apart without breaking the dispensers. Fabric softner is basically wax and fragrance. Add very hot water to the dispenser to melt the fabric softner. In the future, water down the fabric softner.
The fabric softener solenoid valve is faulty and must be replaced. It is sold as an assembly with the bleach solenoid valve with part number 997846. You need to remove the front panel to lift the top panel to inspect or replace the valves.
Front panel removal procedure:
Unplug the machine.
Turn off the water supply.
Open the door and remove it by removing the screws on the hinges holding it.
Remove the remaining two screws on the opposite side along the inside lip of the door opening.
Press in on the outer upper edges of the front panel posts then twist it inward to release it from the clips on the face of the cabinet.
Tilt the top of the front panel away from the washer and remove it.
Remove the four screws holding the dispenser bezel to the top of the top panel.
Remove the 5/16" hex head screws securing the two hold down brackets on the top panel.
Swing the hold down brackets to the outside to unhook it from the slot in the top panel lip.
Lift the front of the top panel and tilt it toward the rear of the machine.
The dispenser valve assembly is the one on right of the water inlet valve assembly where the water supply line is attached to. The fabric softener dispenser valve is the one on the right most.
Clean the terminals and the connector of the fabric softener dispenser valve.
Grab a multimeter and check the resistance between its terminals. The resistance should be between 500 to 1000 ohms. If it reads open, replace the dispenser valve assembly.
Remove the wire harness connections to the valve solenoids.
Loosen and remove the hose clamps on the hoses.
Loosen the valve mounting screws by turning it at least three full turns.
Slide the valve assembly to the left and remove it from the bracket.
Place a towel below the valve and remove the hoses.
Install the new dispenser valve assembly in reverse order.
Install the top panel, dispenser bezel, front panel and the door in reverse order of the removal procedure.
Liquid Softener was clogged up over time. 1-Put hot water in the place of the Softener slowly and let it over flow to dissolve the solidified liquid. 2-Keep doing this until you see water at the bottom of the tub. 3-Run a small load to clean out the gum.
I had a similar problem and removed the complete dispenser drawer and washed it in with hot water. The small inner cups for the fabric softener and bleach should be removed and the hot water directed into the small "stand pipes" on the back side of the covers. It appears the fluids in the cups are siphoned out and if the pipes are clogged at the bottom there will be no flow. Also is the plate is not fully seated, the siphon effect is will not work.
Also, my wife said she does not use the cheaper brands of fabric softener anymore because we think that might have caused some of the clogging.
As a side note, if you remove the top of the washer, there is an adjustable dial where you can fine tune the amount of liquid dispenced. You can try adjusting that too. I think my final fix was to clean the back side of the face plates inside the dispenser and ensure they are fully seated to allow the proper siphon effect.
