4-pin to 4-pin IEEE 1394 iLink FireWire Cable dv out to laptop Connect and transfer home movie from your digital camcorder to Notebook computer.
You will need a Firewire port on your computer, also known as a DV port or IEEE 1394, to use this cable. This is NOT a USB cable.
This DV cable will connect your laptop (notebook) NOTE: for some models, becuase of no DV jack on the body, this cable connects to docking station/cradle instead of connecting directly to your camcorder.
From the user manual, I've discovered that you have to use a IEEE 1394 cable (see the jacks display on page 11) to be able to download the movies from your camera. The camera does not come with a IEEE 1394 cable -- it only comes with a USB cable, so you will have to buy the cable.
Unfortunately, most PCs do not come with a IEEE 1394 connector and you have to buy an adapter card for a desktop computer. If you laptop does not have a IEEE 1394 port, then you are out of luck.
Once you have the cable and the port on the computer squared-away, check page 87 of the user manual for directions on how to retrieve the the video from the camera to the computer.
Since the camcorder came with a 1394 cable (also know as a firewire cable) I'm guessing your camcorder is MiniDV is this correct? Your computer has USB ports standard, you usually have to get a Firewire adapter specifically. Is your computer a desktop or a laptop? If it is a laptop, there is not much you can do. If it is a desktop then you can get a firewire PCI card to put in that you can connect your camcorder to. Any more information you can provide would help me be able to give you a more accurate answer.
You need to purchase a IEEE/1394 firewire. They run around $40-$55 for a 5 foot wire. The 1394 end goes into the computer and the other end goes to your AV/out port on the cam.
IEEE 1394 is commonly referred to as Firewire. Your Dell doesn't support it. You will have to purchase a firewire adapter card and install it and its drivers into your computer.
check the driver status of the firewall port of your laptop, also check while connecting your camcorder to the laptop, the connection setting of the camcorder
You should have get a CD with your firewire card containing the drivers for it. Just insert it and run setup, or when it asks for the drivers when it boots up, point to the cd. An other option is to download the drivers from the manufacturer's website. You do not need to connect the port that is inside, it it there only in case you want a front panel port.
