Bcf2000 will not power up

What part of it got wet will determine the course of action.

If the whole unit were submerged, the unit may prove more time consuming to try to fix than to locate a used one. However, I have salvaged imersed laptops before. the procedure is not much different- make sure the unit is as dry as you can possibly make by blowing a fan on it for an extended period of time.- Days.

Once dried, use some contact cleaner on the jack contacts and interupts, any manual control and any switch.

You can then apply power. If nothing lights up, check and replace fuses as needed. Also check the power supply board for failed caps or rectifiers.

Once the power supply is known to be functional, systematically check the LCD display and the aspects of the amp that it controls. This board will be the most vulnerable and most likely to be the source of most issues you will encountr.

If the display survived intact, and amp does nto work, apply a signal to the inputs and trace the signal through the amp with a set of headphones set up with test prods. The problem will be where the signal stops.

Most common cause is loss of power due to poor connection. These are usually turned on by plugging in the inout cable and a worn plug from the guitar may be intermittent. The sleeve of the inserted plug usually turns on the battery or the adapter power to the unit. Adapter plugs are notorious for poor connections. Another common problem is broken solder at the external jacks into these as cords get yanked and stepped on resulting in force on the jacks breaking the solder. A momentary power loss will trigger the unit off.

The resistor is acting as a fuse and will continue to blow until you fix the REAL problem. LIKELY the filter capacitor(s) beyond the bridge rectifier are failing. One needs to use test equipment to measure the current through the resistor and see if it is reasonable. The capacitors can heal briefly and then start to short. One should also check the rectifier in operation with an oscilloscope as one diode could intermittently short.

if it does not power up, then it means its having a power problem. it might have worked fine in the past, but that's electronics for you. Power surge, irregular power supply, excess power supply, etc can affect the unit thereby not making it to power on.

This unit must have a power supply board in it where power enters from the mains. A capacitor, fuse, diode, etc may have been defective on the power board and maybe that's why its not making the unit turn on. There might also be some disconnection or something, inside the unit which is not making it to power on.

To actually find out what's wrong, you need to disassemble the unit with a screw driver and check what's wrong. You will be needing a meter in order to test the components on the power board, once you detect any bad component, you can make necessary replacement at any electronics accessories store withing our vicinity. This is the only way by which you can detect the problem.

Of course, testing the power board with a meter will require someone that has the ability. So it you can't, then you might be needing the help of a repairman or you can call a friend that has the ability to help you out.

If other lights are on, I have seen a case where the display does not light for a time, especially if it is cold. The gas in the display takes some time to light up like some neon bulbs... the effects should still work, you just can't see the display. Usually the display will eventually come on after a few minutes after being off for long periods. Sometimes one can encourage the display by external radiation such as a cell phone in close proximity.

See if the FX input indicator is functioning.

If the electronics of the DSP/FX is dead, troubleshooting it is not a DIY unless you have special test equipment. The unit uses two 57002 DSP's controlled by an 80C32 micorprocessor. Beyond checking that the 80C32 is operating and busses have activity, you probably won't be able to do any fruitfull troubleshooting

If NO lights come on in this unit, then the power supply has fried and you don't want that as it is likely caused by the rear power amp arcing out.. Lots of work to repair. Since rest is working this is not the case with yours. ALWAYS be careful to insure speaker leads are solid with this amp as an intermitent lead can blow this amp easily.

Behringer does not release their schematics to non-agents...

I don't know if this will help. Have you looked for a battery on the circuit board that backs up the memory? A lot of synths use them and when they go the unit quits functioning. Some will start right up again once the battery is replaced others require a system update through a download. Anyways I always recommend contacting the company in question. Intermittents are hard to find the cause of... but let's give it a shot...

Things to try or verify:

1, Verify power connector is fully seated and supply is correct one and is producing the desired voltage..

2. Verify that the amp this connects to is powered by the same wall receptacle. (this is a ground loop noise issue) Also don't let mic's or other electrical equipment touch the drum pad mounting system.

3. Verify you are not inadvertently generating static discharges. If you find yourself drawing sparks when you touch things this is an indication of static. if this is a problem, raise humidity to 40%.

4. If unit is subject to heat, try cooling with a fan to see if it helps the situation.

5. Verify the unit is NOT being vibrated.

6. IF THE UNIT is quite old, verify an internal backup battery is not depleted... they usually are about 3 volts when OK.

Likely the supply was underated OR it is getting hit with a transient. Transients are common in some venue power systems.

There should be a label on the unit as to what the power requirements are. Make sure the power adapter is rated for that or more CURRENT in amps or milli-amps.

Are you sure the power supply has failed? There could be an intermittent in the unit, most likely with the inout power jack... They often get damaged by tripping over the power cord.

The basic unit requires 10 watts at line voltage. Modifying the unit internally would be a disaster. You are better off using an invertor to drive it.

The internal supply will be a switching type and probably generate +/- 15 volts and +5 volts.

Test the power adapter to make sure that there is power at the plug (volt ohm meter). Try wiggling the plug while it is plugged into the unit with the power switch on. If it works intermittently it means that the solder joint for the power adapter jack has failed on the circuit board. If that isn't the problem it probably is the power switch that needs to be tested next. IF you aren't confident with disassembling the unit far enough to do the tests you will need to take it in for servicing. Let me know how you make out.
