How do you clean the printer head

seems to look like it may be a manual procedure with the mg6150 rather than a computer setting in the printer properties. Look under properties to see if there is a computer generated head clean .

hi there is problem with print head yours print head is blocked, there is way to open blocked head if you are technical you should have to remove ink and then you can takeout print head.
there is the way to open blocked head without any coast.
1. remove print head from printer.
2. take your print head in to wash sink.
3. keep upper side down of print head under the water tab & open water for 10 minut.
4. dry water from print head.
5. reset back print head in to printer make copy or just run clean print head from tools.

i've tried to remove it from the sliders and to have it soaked in alcohol for about 10 hours without any luck. It is too much work without any guarantee. I suggest to junk it and get a new one (if possible with heads on the cartridges so they are replaced with each refill)

The printhead for black ink cartridge could be blocked.

It is better to run the Clean Printhead operation on your printers tools option.

You can manually clean the print head so that next time when you execute the Clean Printhead from HP solution center it will be successful.

First, remove the printheads.
then, pull up the lever at the top of the cartridge holder, this releases the print head.

The print head could be blocked, most common is the dried ink blocking the small holes in the print head.

Washed it in running tap water. It is best if you soak it in a mixture of water and ammonia and leave it overnight.

After soaking, you can spray it with canned air and blow those little holes to unclog it. Once it dry, return the print head and the ink cartridges and performed the alignment.

The ink is a lubricant for the print heads. Some color ink is used even if you only print in black or vice-versa. If you printed with a color missing, you could destroy that print head from the friction of running without ink to lubricate it. That's why most printers won't allow you to print with a color missing even if you aren't using it.

If you allow a color to go empty, the residual ink in the head could clog and become permanently blocked. You would never be able to print that color again. So always replace ink cartridges as soon as they are empty.

Leaving your printer on takes very little power. Every so often the printer sends a signal to cycle the ink in the heads so it doesn't clog. If you turn your printer off, the next time you turn it on it will do a cleaning which wastes a lot of ink. The excess ink is soaked up by the waste pad beneath the printer. When the waste pad is full, the printer stops working. Unless you want to spend more than the cost of the printer or waste a lot of time on a messy cleanup you will end up throwing the printer out. So shutting it off actually shortens its life.

If you leave the printer off for extended periods of time, the ink in the heads will clog and you will have to throw the printer away.

Here's how to clear blocked print heads, given you've run the cleaning of the print heads or nozzles from the printer at least 5 times:
-remove the cartridge(s) from the blocked head and drop alcohol where the ink enters the printer.
-reinsert the cartridges
-run one head cleaning
-wait about an hour then run some head cleanings.
-dip the print heads in Isopropyl Alcohol overnight, which you can buy from chemist

-if that still doesn't work, your heads may be clogged to the point where they need repair or replacement, which will probably cost more than a new printer.

The following is good advise I found here:

A clogged print head on your inkjet printer is not a fine thing. Over time (especially when there's long periods of no printer use) the many tiny holes that make up a modern inkjet printer's head can become clogged with dried ink.

Most printers today have some sort of cleaning routine where either you instruct the printer to go through a cleaning cycle via a program on your computer or you press a squence of buttons on the printer itself to begin the process. A number of these cleanings, in succession, will usually take care of a clogged head--but not always. I recently found my year and a half old Epson Stylus Color 600 unable to print coherently using black ink and no amount of standard cleaning-cycle runthroughs would fix the problem.

On some inkjet printers (HP's for instance) the ink cartridge contains the print head, so changing the cartridge gives you a new, unclogged printhead. My Epson's print head is part of the printer itself, and can only be replaced by a service technician, and the cost is usually very close to the price of the printer itself. I had to come up with something better than that, so I began searching the web to see what people in similar predicaments had done. I found that I my problem was not unique and there were some rather successful remedies floating around.

I discovered that isopropyl alcohol (I bought a bottle of 91% alcohol at the drugstore for ~$3) is a great solvent for this sort of dried ink. There were those that recommended that I take an old, discarded ink jet cartridge, open it, clean it out with the alcohol, fill it back up with alcohol, reseal it, and place it in the printer for a few runs through the printer's self-cleaning method. This proved to be a rather messy endeavor indeed, so I followed a bit of less-agressive advice.

I simply removed the black print cartridge from the printer and dropped 7-10 drops of alcohol down in the ink-recepticle area where the ink cartridge normally sits (there should be a little hole down in there where the ink actually flows from the cartridge into the head), replaced the ink cartridge, and ran a few sessions of the printers head-cleaning routine. It took quite a few cleaning sessions (probably 15-20) with a few pages of text prints thrown in there just to try and move some ink, before it cleared up.

It actually had to sit overnight, with the last few cleanings done the next morning, before all was well--but well it is. Everything works perfectly now, and I don't have to go out and buy a new printer.

To avoid such blockages, it's a good idea to print something, both in color and black&white (if you've got a color printer), once a week or so just to keep things moving. But if you do end up cursed with a blocked print head--this method should take care of you.

Did you run the Maintenance feature that is part of the printer's program?

If not, open the Maintenance page and select Head Cleaning. This cleans the head by pushing through a lot of ink thereby dissolving any dried ink that is blocking the heads. Run a Print check to tell if the heads are properly cleaned (this cleaning may need to be repeated a few times before the heads are cleaned properly).
