I left Utorrent downloading a film overnight, i have woken up to find an error message saying something along the lines of "Unable to save to the specified path please relocate the save path" (the drive was nowhere near full). I tryed to do this, then the computer hung up. I was forced to shut down by holding the power button for 3 seconds. Then when starting up again the computer hung on the HP boot screen, so i removed the external drive and repeated the shut down and started up again without the drive connected. Now every time i plug the drive into USB it beeps and hums for a second, i counted a total of 55 beeps before it decides to give up. My Computer does not recognise the drive anymore but when i go to 'safley remove hardware' it still knows it's a 'USB mass storage device' and a 'WD drive' . I've tryed the 'add new hardware' in 'control pannel' to no avail. I'm very worried i've lost all my data, is there anything i can do? Does anyone know what the 55 beeps mean? If this means it's dead, where can i go to get my data recovered (I live in Bristol, UK)? Thanks for any help. George
Try the WD USB hard drive in another computer. If you can access your data on another computer then backup your data.
If the WD USB hard drive is faulty then -
It is not possible to recover data from faulty hard drivesby mortals such as you and I.
There are companies that can recover data from faulty and damaged hard drivesBUT they wll charge an arm and a leg for their services.
