So did you get a fix (d70)

I just bought a cable (http://www.adorama.com/INKUCE41.html). I connected my D70 via usb, turned the power on, and nothing. I don't even get as far as iPhoto.

Are there some settings or a particular mode I need to be in?

It will be cheaper for you to buy a card reader. My camera would not let me download photos into iphoto.. try to see if you can just drag photos into your computer.. If that is the case change your photo program.

Owners manual for Nikon d70

http://www.nikonusa.com/Find-Your-Nikon/Product-Archive/Digital-SLR/25214/D70.html

The website told me that the d70 has a FAQ section which should have answers to many questions posed by owners of the D70 camera.

The PDF files are not available for download, per se, but answers to questions can be found in links to the above web page.

Camera will not power up changed battery just went dead Nikon D70

Fixing a Dead Nikon D70 - Green Blinking Light My first-generation Nikon D70, which I bought the day it was released to the market a few years back, died on me a few months ago. Without a card in it, it won't start, and when you insert a CF card in the slot, the green data-access indicator flashes on and off. If I hold down the Menu button, the menu flashes on and off along with the green LED.
d70_87x1.jpgAs it turns out, this is a known problem with the original Nikon D70 cameras, and Nikon USA has a service bulletin out on the camera body. They'll repair it free of charge.
So, if you have the same problem, visit this service bulletin page, http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/D70-Service-Advisory.page click on the D70, and you can access a PDF file that you'll need to print, fill out and send to Nikon along with your camera body. Be sure to take your camera strap off and remove the battery, and don't send any lenses or other accessories.
Mine's on it's way to Nikon now - they say the turnaround is five days (plus shipping time).

D70 USB setting issue

Users of Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Mac OS 9.x may experience problems trying to download images from the Nikon D70 using Nikon View. Initial shipments of the D70 have the USB option in the "Set up" menu set to PTP - Picture Transfer Protocol. PTP is only compatible for downloading images with Windows XP and Mac OS X. To solve this issue please set the USB menu option to Mass Storage and then connect the camera to the computer. The D70's card will then mount like a removable disk and Nikon View will be able to transfer images
