If the tapes are originals and not copies then they will be copy protected and you will have problems copying them , there is another way but due to legal reasons i cannot go into that.

Recorder stops recording from vhs tapes after about a minute

Some VHS tapes have copyright signals embedded in them. Then when the DVD recorder reads the copyright signal it will stop recording due to it thinking there is a copyright violation happening. Try testing with a VHS TAPE of a show you have recorded off the TV and see if it does the same thing .,

I have a Toshiba dvr 7 vcr dvd recorder. It occasionally gives an error message 85 when I am trying to copy a VHS tape to DVD. What does this mean and is there a way around it?

Commercial movie VHS tapes have copyright protection added to the tape. There is hardware in the recorder (mandated by law) that will sense this signal and not allow copying of these tapes to another tape or any other media. There are hackers that have built devices and modified equipment to circumvent this, but you risk legal action if caught.

Most Combo Recorders (VHS and DVD) will prevent you from
recording a Copyrighted VHS tape program onto DVD.
Try recording a TV program onto your VHS tape, then
transfer it to your DVD and see if your new DVD recording
will work or not.

When I try to record from VHS to DVD I get an error message saying that it cannot be recorded. Why?

some commercial tapes have a copyright code on them called 'macrovision'. the dvd player may sense this and disable recording. Try a homemade tape and see if you can record from those first.

When recording from vhs tape, and the signal is poor at times, the machine automaticaly stops recording temporarily and resumes when the signal is more stable. how can this feature be disabled?

If you are recording VHS tapes that contain macrovision, and most commercial tapes do, you can't record them with this DVR because it is compliant with the law that says you can't do it. So don't try. Download nearly every movie/tv show from the internet instead.

If you are recording from VHS tapes that you have created yourself from TV sources, or from camera, you must stabilize the picture. There are several devices like that. Do a google search on "vhs stabilizer".

Funai dvd rcorder will not record to dvd

Are you trying to record a VHS tape to DVD? This won't work if the VHS tape is a commercial (disney, dreamwords, etc) because of an analog copy protection scheme known as Macrovision.

If you are trying to record, say, a broadcast signal and it will record to VHS and HDD, but the DVD errors out, then either the DVD drive is bad, or you have the incorrect type of recordable DVD in the player...

Panasonic DMR ES15, cannot record coywrighted vhs tapes onto dvd.

Try this:

If you have another VCR system (Master) you can connect it from the master to the Panasonic DMR ES15 (slave). Insert the copyrighted tape onto the master VCR system and insert a empty VHS tape on the slave system. In the slave, record from the master. When done, you can record from the videotape you have made from the master tape, to the DVD recorder.

If you still have problems, please contact the manufacturer of this model.

Recording purchased vhs tape to dvd recorder.

How old is the VHS tape? I've had success recording older movies, but the newer ones have encryption to prevent duplication of them. I've even tried playing them on another VCR and transmitting the signal with a wireless audio/video transmitter but unfortunately the encryption is still there. If you can copy the tape to another tape, then it may not have encryption. If that's the case, check you A/V inputs to see if you have them setup right.
