The magnet may not have enough punch using track power. Recommend you use an aux power source fixed 10 to 13VAC supply and not track power. There may also be a slight + difference between the track magnet head and the plate on the coal car so that there is insufficient force to release the dump mechanism.
Hi I dont have a solution but found you can buy a new chassis from tomy uk for about 5 pounds. I also found a guy on eBay called thatwasfun who repairs tomy Thomas things for $10
Generally they bonly go back in one way - however it depends on the motor you decided to take apart. The two speed ones are quite fiddly. Why did you take it apart?
