the consel is most likely broken try a new consel or send it in for a repair

well first of all your only supposed to press it. dont hold down. i dont really know why, but i suppose if anything something having to do with the power cord. proud to be part of your help

Try a different power cord. If it's not that, then you might need to contact Sony. You can get a power cord from just about any store that sells PS2's for about $15.

well maybe you put the wrong colors on! Or maybe you could just go to best buy or the store you got it from and exchange it, or git your money back!!!

you will need to buy a new power board for you ps2 just google it and you can find them there like 20 buck and relplacing them is easy

usually, there is a problem with a ribbon cable of power/reset switch. Try using a replacement ribbon of the same type.

What do you have to hold down, the cord from the adaptor to the machine or the cord from the plug to the adaptor? Did you get a shock when you first tried holding the cords down? The cords are pretty thick and the insulation should not peel off at all unlees you are also twisting the cord. Also if you lay the console flat instead of using the stand the problem may clear up, because you won't be twisting the cord.

I have the same problem. At first if I wiggled the powere supply cord, and pulled it in one direction, it worked. After a while it wouldn't turn on at all. I ordered another supply cord, but no luck. I opened up the PS2 to see if I could see anything. The male terminal which the power supply plugs into, has three solder joints on the bottom of the terminal. Mine had the main solder joint broke loose. I am going to try resoldering it back on. I will post again if it works. If not will probably just buy another one.
