I have the same problem...this is what I have done.
Unscrew the band around the mixer to remove top casing. After that, unscrew the housing that holds all the gears.
When i did that, i noticed that there was no grease on one of the gears and that 6 of the teeth had sheared off and were now bound up in the mixer's other gears...so first step was remove the several gears so i could get to the broken one at the bottom of the vertical rod. I had to remove a retaining clip (which really sucked). It took about half an hour of using a screwdriver, needle nose pliers, and some wide mouth pliers. First jam the screwdriver between the **** on the clip and twist...once the clip is out of the groove enough, use the needle nose to force the rest of the clip out of the groove. Once you get the stupid thing out of the groove (will take several tries), you can use the wide mouth pliers to kind of work the clip of the shaft. I put one of the sides of the pliers on top of the shaft and the other underneath the clip to work it up the shaft.
Once you get that forsaken clip off, the other gears and the little retaining rod come off very easily.
Next step is clean out all of the old grease, put in new gears and reassemble this thing back together.
It kind of sucks that this happened to ours, we only had it about 14 months before it **** out on us...some idiot in a factory or something didn't properly grease the whole assembly and now i had to go through and fix their screw up. Couldn't send it in because it was out of warranty and they wanted $300 to fix it. Total fix cost will be about $20 when all said and done and about an hour worth of time.I have the same problem...this is what I have done.

Something must be broken if the motor is turning and the planetary is not. It will be one of the following, we will start from the first point of contact with the armature
1) Worm gear broken (fuse gear) you say no teeth broken
2) Worm gear not broken but whole unbroken plastic part not gripping aluminium boss
3) Pin through worm gear broken or missing
4) Pin through centre (or bevel) gear broken or missing
5) Pin through small gear in planetary broken or missing
6) Pin through planetary hub centre shaft broken or missing
The most common ones in order of likelihood are, 1, 2, 3 and 6
The problem will be with the worm gear, if the gear is not stripped then check that the locating pin for the worm gear is not broken or missing. Occasionally the plastic gear can detach from the aluminium boss between plastic and shaft. The worm gear is the 99.9% place where drive can slip. Afterthought, I suppose the planetary pin is not missing or broken??
First what model number? you may not have ordered the correct part number for your mixer, second how old is your mixer, the new part may have to just work itself in due to wear on the center gear that the planetary gear turns inside of, if your mixer is relativity new but you have used it a lot (daily) it may be the same problem, wear on the center gear, if the planetary gear was stripped when you replaced it and you did not clean all the old grease out before you replaced it you may be hearing shards of metal grinding away at your old and new gear which means that you will have to replace both soon again, Hope that this gives you some help on the problem, Please let us know.
The loud pop was probably the soft start circuit board on the motor. You can buy this board at repair sites or Ebay. And yes, they make 220V versions of this mixer.
Your kitchenaid mixer is meant to leak a tiny amount of oil around the rim of the planetary gear on the front of the machine. This is just a means of lubrication. If however you are getting alot of oil coming out of the sides of the unit, the transmission gasket may be worn or broken if this is the case it will have to be replaced. part number for the gasket is 4162324. If your getting alot of oil from the center of the unit this could indicate worn or broken seals. there are 4 located inside the unit, and would need to be dismantled in order to replace. part number for all four is 3180163. If you are leaking alot of oil or grease continued use of the mixer might cause it damage. Hope this helps
It shouldn't do that, and I really doubt there's anything you can do
about it other than to have the defective part replaced. It sounds to
me as though there's a problem with the control mechanism. If the
machine is still under warranty, contact Kitchenaid to see about
getting it repaired or replaced. If not, get the name of a local shop
that repairs Kitchenaid mixers -- from your description of the problem,
the mixer is nearly unless in its current state.
Hi, The KitchenAid mixers are usually quite easy to work on if you are competent at DIY. It sounds like a gearbox fault. Gearbox parts are easy obtained for most of the models and are easy to repair.
This is a service manual for a lot of the KitchenAid mixers. Might give you an idea on how difficult it is to work on before taking the plunge.
