USB Flash drive suddenly not recognized in WinXP

I have an 8GB Verbatim USB flash drive that was working fine for several weeks but now XP suddenly no longer recognizes it.

I've tried using add/remove hardware, update USB drivers, etc.

The drive works fine in 2 other XP machines that I have.

Any suggestions?

thank you.

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried them but unfortunately didn't work.

I did however find a solution on a different forum that I thought I'd pass along.

Turns out my other USB ports were "dead" as well. Someone suggested shutting down the computer and unplugging the power cord from the wall for at least 30 seconds. Seems that sometimes the USB ports need to discharge some current and reset.

That did the trick and all is well.

    thanks again for your help.

Verbatim store n go usb flash drive 8 gb device not recognized

My Verbatim Sto N Go 8GB USB Flash Drive does not work in any port, in any computer. When I plug it in, the "Device is not recognized" error comes up. When I click on it, and the Unknown Device Properties comes up, the device status reads: "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."

The driver details read:
Provider: Advanced Micro Devices
File Version: 1.0.11.82 built by: WinDDK
Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility

This is the 2nd drive of this same brand that quit working within 6 months. I have MONTHS of work on files in this drive, and would hate to have to redo all that work! I was real careful after the first one went bad to use the eject button when removing it from my computer. But I am thinking the last time I clicked the eject button, it froze, so I just pulled it out without the message coming up. Hopefully there is someway to get the computer to recognize this drive again???

PNY 8GB Flash Drive - PC Will not recognize

Have you installed a scanner/another external USB drive since first trying your Flash drive? If so, try unplugging that and re-insert your Flash drive. I had this problem and a friend suggested this and it worked!
