Dell Optiplex 380 workstation Error Message - Status 79

Computer won't start - went into boot menu with R12. Ran Diagnostics, and getting the Error Code "Status 79" on HDD scan. What to do? Note- I am likely beyond warranty at this point.

SOURCE: my dell optiplex gx200 bios can't boot

maybe try taking out the cmos battery located in your case, looks like a small watch battery, that will clear bios settings and start from scratch, if there is no battery then there is a jumper sequence to do this

SOURCE: Error: Cannot Display This Video Mode

You may have to boot into safe mode and reset the video settings to a safe setting like 1024x768.

  1. To get into safe mode, continuously press F8 while the computer is booting up.
  2. Eventually you will get a Windows XP Boot Menu.
  3. Choose the option for Safe Mode.
  4. Go to Start, Control Panel and double-click Display.
  5. On the Settings tab, drag the slider bar to 1024x768.
  6. Click OK
  7. Shut down and reboot.
If the problem goes away, then you are good. Otherwise, you'll have to boot menu again (F8) and choose Enable VGA Mode.

SOURCE: IDE Device Failed on Dell Dimension

Hi

Thank you for your query

From the error message that you are seeing you are having a issue with one or both of your IDE devices. These devices are your Hard drive or/and your CD/DVD drive

I would not recommned that you tackle it yourself if you have no PC engineering experience

Please book into a reputabe firm for further diagnosis, it may be that you may need to discoonect the IDE drive from the devices and give it a clean or alternativley one of the devices may be faulty

If this has been useful please leave positive feedback/vote/testimonial as

this will help me greatly - Thank you again

Dell error code 2000-0151 incorrect status 28

That error indicates an "incorrect status" of your optical drive. I suggest you run the Dell diagnostics on your drive. To test your CD/DVD drive from the utility partition:
1. Reboot your system. When you see the Dell logo, hit F12 to enter the boot menu.
2. Select Boot to utility partition.
3. Select Test System.
4. Select Custom Test.
5. Use the arrow keys or mouse to select your CD/DVD drive.
6. Insert a CD or DVD.
7. Click Run Tests.
8. Write down any error messages.

Error code 0142 message error code 2000-0142

My computer did boot up to the desktop, but was completely unresponsive from there when trying to open anything. I ran a system diagnostics and got this error with the status byte of 70. I rebooted into Safe Mode and was then able to open files. I backed up my stuff to a flash drive and then ran Error-Checking in the HD Properties which runs the CHKDSK function the next time the computer is rebooted. That found 2 bad file clusters and repaired them. One was a file called Windows.edb, which does the hard drive search indexing for Windows and was most likely my problem with the lockups. The other was a Napinsp.dll file. After these were fixed and the computer was rebooted, everything worked normally.
This HD is only 9 months old, but if this happens again, I'll replace it again.

Dell error code 0142. Status 72

This is sounding like a hardware problem--possibly memory.
A Dell has a built-in diagnostic program that you can access when you first start your computer.
When you first turn it on, you'll see a message at the bottom of the screen that tells you to press (F12, I think) for boot options. Once you press that you'll get a menu that will allow you to select a boot device. Another option just below the devices is the diagnostics option. Select that and run a system diagnostics. It will pick up any hardware problems you have.

Dell inspiron 1545 Laptop computer is getting BSOD on boot, when first ran diagnostics got error: Hard Drive - DST Test Results - Fail Error Code 2000-0142 Msg Hard Drive 0 - self test unsuccessful status...

The error indicates that there's a hard drive issue. If it just happened after the hard disk is reinstalled, remove it and reinstall it. It could be a problem caused by loose connection or improper connections. If the same problem repeats, install the hard drive on another system (to verify whether it works on another machine or not and to confirm it still works). If it doesn't work on another computer/system then your only option to run the system is replacing the hard disk. If it works on another computer or if it's detected on another system, then there could be problem with the hard disk, eg. Corrupt Partition, Windows Corrupt etc....
First of all, try booting into Safe Mode. You have to press F8 during the startup to go into Advanced Boot Options. Once you are in the Windows Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode using the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard. If it still doesn't work, it's the hard disk issue. Try with another Hard Disk.
But if in case you can boot into safe mode, check the Hard Disk for errors. In other words, run Windows Checkdisk utility. Hope this helps.
Let me know if you need further help.
Good Luck.

sounds like a bad hard drive. Press f12 during the dell logo on startup and choose "diagnostics" from the boot menu, see if more failures relating to the hard drive are returned.

Hi, In my dell optiplex 380 desktop showing blue dump error which describes that ecode : 051 msg : 2000-0151 msg: Hard drive-1-incorret stats:3E no addition

Most cases the harddrive is faulty if with code the PSA+ 2000-0151 code means Hard Drive (d): - Incorrect status: (x) (s) etc...Caution:Remove any and all power sources Including but not limited to: AC Adapter, Battery, or Desktop Power Cord, before you remove or reinstall an item in your computer." So Run the Drive Self Test (DST) from the Utility Partition also known as the 32 bit diagnostics to determine if the previous error has been corrected. If the DST from the Utility Partition does not indicate a failure of the drive, we consider the error to have been corrected and the drive does not need to be replaced.

Hey, My Dell Optiplex GX270 will run for a quick second, beep, and then a light with a barrel looking icon lights for a second too. How do I fix this? Thanks so much!

I would run diagnostics. Here's how you do it if the utility partition exists on your hard drive:

Starting the Dell Diagnostics From Your Hard Drive
  1. Shut down and restart the computer.

  2. When the DELL™ logo appears, press <F12> immediately.

NOTE: If you see a message stating that no diagnostics utility partition has been found, run the Dell Diagnostics from your Drivers and Utilities CD.

  2. When the Dell Diagnostics Main Menu appears, select the test you want to run.
