Need to run the recovery XP disk

I have some files missing and can still use this machine, but not everything on it. I have the Northgate XP recover disk that came with the bundle from Staples in 2003. I am used to running HP recovery disks but have heard this Northgate is not the same. Is there anyway I can try to repair my files from the disk without having to reformat? If I have to reformat does the Northgate XP recovery disk have everything I will need on it, or does one have to run separate motherboard disks, etc? I do have the XP license number. Does Northgate require any special number key to access the files on the disk? Any step by step directions will be greatly appreciated too. Thanks!

The XP repair did not work!

Thanks for your information. It is working better now after doing some cleanup with it. Microsoft said they would contact me within 72 hrs. with my problem so if that doesn't work, I'll try the recover disk from Northgate which I have. Thanks again!

Since you have the XP licence key, try to get hold of an XP install CD and do a repair installation, using your own key when asked for it.

Sorry, don't know if recovery cd is the whole thing or just Windows - but it should tell you before you commit yourself if you try it. I'll try and find instructions for you.

You can recover data from hard drive with data recovery software. Then format the drive toget it fixed.
For data recovery program, here are two of the best Iused.

For Windows: http://www.any-data-recovery.com/index.htm
For Mac: http://www.stellarinfo.com/mac-data-recovery.htm

You can download one of them and scan your hard drive for free to previewwhether your files can be recovered. They will show you the file name, type, dateand of your files and thumbnails for your pictures that it found on yourdrive.

I how do i restoremy North Gate Comp to factory specs? I have a recover XP home Disc

Back up any important files to CD, USB Flash Drive, or External hard disk as they will be lost during this process. Insert the recovery disk and restart the computer. When prompted, press any key to boot from CD, then follow the prompts on the screen.

first, recover your files. You will need to use something like this data recovery program.

I've had to use it many times in the past but in this case you need to plug that drive into another system as an external drive or slave drive and run the software from there. It will rebuild the drive and hopefully recover the files.

After you get back your files, you can then format the drive and reinstall your system.

Hello,
This is a nasty error code and can be a pain to fix and recover your data. You get this error when your hard drive have bad sectors and/or you are missing NTFS boot files.

Try this for recovery and repair:

If you have the XP cd, insert it in your pc, boot up and go to the Console Recovery sections. Once in, type this at the command line:

chkdsk c: /p /r

This will check your hard drive and correct bad sectors AND recover any readable information from the bad sectors.

If you don't have the XP disk, you will need to take the hard drive out, connect it to another pc (desktop) as a second drive and run the check disk command.

Good luck,

System32 dll file is missing or corrup

There is a good possibility that you are having a hardware failure of the Hard Disk Drive, causing the windows error.

Either in the BIOS or in the F12 boot menu should be an option to run diagnostics, see if the hard drive fails. If it does, then you need to replace the drive.

If not, you will likely need an XP Installation CD so you can boot to Recovery Console and run the command CHKDSK /P to try and recover the operating system

Files missing

Bring up a command prompt and in the window type SFC /scannow
When that is done it will tell you if there are files missing and whether it was able to repair them.
