Singer 6217C Bobbin Thread bunching

My machine has started bunching up tons of thread from the bobbin while sewing a straight seam. I have tried several different bobbins, same result. Not sure how to adjust bobbin tension on this machine. HELP!

I've tried adjusting the bobbin tension, and it didn't help. I have re-threaded the upper thread and changed the thread tension. no luck. :(

My machine sews fine for a little while then the bottom thread starts to look loopy. I've tried adjusting the tension but that doesn't help. Help

I am using light cotton fabric, cut into a 4 inch by 43-46 inch strip, I iron on heavy pellon 1 inch wide strip down the center and add a 1 inch wide strip of felt like batting about 1/16th inch thick, I then fold each edge in half and fold over the pellon and batting and then I try to sew several (5) lines on the purse strap for stability. This has been done on past straps successfully so I am having a hard time understanding how to fix this problem. I have tried to set the feed dog but this model has up or darning nothing for different thicknesses of fabric. Somemone, please help if you can. Thanks, Frankie

make sure there are no threads wound around underneath

  • Jimmie Sill Feb 19, 2015

Pull on your upper thread with your hand when the pressure foot is down. There should be some resistance. The tension on the upper thread is too low. Check the thread to ensure it is between the tension washers. The best tension adjustment to start at is four. The other thing to check is that you have your stitch distance above zero.

  • Jimmie Sill Feb 26, 2015

    1. Make sure the bobbin case is in place properly. It has to be loose enough to allow the top thread to be pulled on top and around the carrier.

  • Jimmie Sill Feb 26, 2015

    1. Thread the top thread and allow two inches of thread to hang from the bobbin. 2. Turn the hand wheel and watch the thread from the needle when it is under the plate. 3. If the needle thread doesn't flow across the top of the bobbin case without sticking. 3. If it is sticking-loosen the bobbin case holders to allow the thread to flow. 4. Make sure you have the bobbin case at about an equal risistance as the top tension when set to four.(This is approximate) 5. A good rule of thumb when threading the top is do it with the foot up. Give little tugs along the way. If there are snags they have to be fixed. 6. Once threaded without snags and flowing smoothly put the foot down. Pull to see if it is excess or too little. Adjust as needed.

Thread started bunching on underside of project & tangling around bobbin. Now the needle won't pick up bobbin thread, even after changing needle 2x and re-threading upper thread. What's wrong?

Hmmm, could be several things.
Try a brand new needle. Try a different brand of thread.
Remove the top thread from the machine. RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning. Verify the thread path is correct.

If it still will not pick up the bobbin thread, the machine could be out of time.

I have a Singer 2263 which is old but not used often. I am making aprons for Christmas, I made 3 and all the sudden the bobbin started bunching together. What can I do?

hi Sue.
Why does my bobbin thread keep bunching up? Check Your Tension Settings. Looping underneath the fabric usually occurs when there is not enough tension in the needle thread to pull the bobbin thread. Sometimes thread bunching can be caused by something as simple as the tension dial being inadvertently turned.

Thread bunches up when replacing thread on bobbin

If the thread is bunching or tangling when winding a bobbin, check that you have properly threaded the winder. Especially make sure you are running the thread through the bobbin tension assembly.

Turned machine on, started to sew(about 4"), machine beeped, screen started flashing off & on, then it went off. Will not restart. Tried a new cord and that wasn't the problem

Look at your seam. If you have a bunch of balled up thread underneath the seam, part of the problem is operator error. Always always grasp the thread end while beginning the seam. I suspect that the thread gut bunched up under the material and caught up in the bobbin/shuttle area.

Remove the fabric, unplug the machine... get into the bobbin area, remove the bobbin, and if necessary clean threads caught up in the bobbin race/shuttle. reassemble and replace the bobbin... turn on the machine. Try again.

Top thread bunches

try changing the needle--use a needle according to the fabric
being sewed
if thin fabric is being sewed try using a stablizer
rethread the machine top and bobbin--use every thread guide
make sure the bobbin is inserted correctly and turned correctly
in the bobbin case
also try adjusting the top thread tension just a little

The thread on the bottom bunches up all down at the bottom than bunches up

Usually problems like this are caused by improper bobbin winding and installation, incorrect tension, the wrong needle for project, or simply not grasping the threads and gently pulling them backwards when you start a seam.

1. Make sure you are threading the machine correctly.
2. Check your tension.
3. Check the bobbin, make sure it's wound properly and that you don't have the bobbin in upside down.
4. Check for bits of fluff and thread in the bobbin race area.
5. Change your needle, they wear out, get bent, dull... etc. You should have several different types on hand at all times.
6. Grasp both the threads gently and pull slightly backwards when you begin a seam. this will assure that your bobbin thread doesn't get all bunched up under the fabric.
7. Always test tension, needles etc., on a scrap piece of fabric before you begin sewing your project.

:o) Smile... sewing is fun... remember?

Thread bunchingup on bottom of material on singer

Hello,
Here are some solutions to try.

* Re-thread your machine
It may be threaded incorrectly.

* Raise your feed dogs If your machine has this feature.

* When you start to sew a seam, hold the upper and bobbin thread tails back and out of the way as you sew your first couple of stitches. This will keep them from getting caught in your machine.

I hope this helps.

Sewing a straight seam will be going well until the bottom thread suddenly becomes very loose and loopy. The top thread is completely fine. The only clue that this is happening is the spool "jumping"...

Hello,
Here are some solutions to try.

* Increase the upper thread tension on your machine. It may be too loose.

* Decrease your bobbin tension if your sewing machine allows you to adjust it. Consult your manual.

* Reinsert your bobbin. It may be inserted incorrectly.

* Change your thread. If your upper thread and bobbin threads are different types, try using the same thread for both.

Although you did this, it won't hurt to re-check. Make sure bobbin is threaded correctly.

Hope this helps.
