Want to remove gas tank from a 6hp OHC tecunseh engine.

possible part blocked main jet or low fuel supply from blocked filter in the tank

The fuel inlet tube is most likely clogged with fuel varnish or debris. Remover the carb bowl and slide a thin rod or paper clip up through tube and clean out fuel passage. Spray carb clean up through tube to complete cleaning. Repeat this at the end of the season and then remove gas from tank or use fuel stabilizer available at WalMart or any auto parts store.

Clean or change air filter. Clean, gap or change spark plug. Empty gas tank add fresh gas with Stabil. When spark plug is removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in spark plug hole before replacing spark plug. Clean outside of carb so choke works freely. Spray starter fluid into carb breather hole with air filter removed and try to start. if running replace air filter and cover. If no start disassemble carb and clean. If no start replace carb.

When you drained the gas from the gas tank did you also take the carb apart and clean it. There should be a bowl that the fuel line from the gas tank goes to. There is a float in that bowl that has to go up and down to regulate how much gas goes into the engine. You may have a build up of varnish from old gas on the piece that the float moves up and down. Also there should be an idle jet that you screw in and out to adjust the idle. That also could be junked up.

Did any seemingly unrelated event coincide with whatever it is not working? need the model number and brand name, if you need a manual i need the brand name and model number,if it is a riding mower the model number is under the seat.a snow blower the model number is on the rear of the machine, let me know,thank you. ~~

The carburetor probably needs cleaning -- the float is sticking.

yes your carb is probably dirty try sea foam or small engine tune up or get your carb cleaned

it's mainly between the tank and the carbin the fuel line(make sure you point the arrow towards the carb..good luck

If it sat for years then its likely a fuel problem. Verify this by spraying a prime in the carb and trying to start it. If the unit starts then its a fuel problem. I would drain the tank and replace with fresh fuel, remove the carb and clean it.

go to an auto parts store and get a can of gasoline additive called seafoam. Read the label so you know how much to add to your 6 gallon tank. This stuff works wonders on outboard motors.
