2nd time I'm asking! New chuck just won't function. I put chuck it in the collet, tightened it, and cannot get the three 'teeth' in the keyless chuck to tighten.
If a large enough drill bit is inserted too far so it bottoms in the chuck, the jaws run into the bottomed shank and will not close beyond a certain point due to the interference. If you hold the drill bit out about 1/2 inch from the bottom, the jaws should close on the bit. I assume you have tested the chuck without a bit to verify they can close.

Keyless Single Sleeve Chuck
Your tool features a keyless chuck with one rotating sleeve for one-handed operation of the
chuck. To insert a drill bit or other accessory, follow these steps.
1. Lock the trigger in the OFF position as previously described.
2. Grasp the black sleeve of the chuck with one hand and use the other hand to secure the
tool. Rotate the sleeve counterclockwise far enough to accept the desired accessory.
3. Insert the accessory about 3/4" (19 mm) into the chuck and tighten securely by rotating the
chuck sleeve clockwise with one hand while holding the tool with the other. Your tool is
equipped with an automatic spindle lock mechanism. This allows you to open and close the
chuck with one hand.

Most chucks have a tolerance the cordless drills where designed for drill bits 1/8 and larger the 3/8 chucks are a little better with the smaller bits .Check your owners manual and see if they have a min requirement listed for the bit size
SOURCE: Bit stuck in Bosch PS20 keyless chuck
These units have only been out for a short while and most are on warranty. Take it to a Bosch Service center in your area and they will replace the front of the unit. Unfortunatly this is a problem with this type of unit. The bit will deform slightly from the impacting action and lock itself in the chuck.

jacobs come out with this all metal keyless chuck(i think thats what you have) and if thats the case, there is no solution for this youll have to replace the hole chuck, being its new, it may be under warrenty
SOURCE: chuck is locked in open position
What you can try is some WD 40 spray into the chuck and then find a GOOD pair of gloves or a rag and hold the collar of the chuck either by hand or use the rag and a pair of channel locks to protect it and then use the tool motor slowly and see if that doesn't release it

Thanks. I tried it w/o a drill bit in the chuck and nothing happened. Is this a defective part?
