If anyone is still doing this.. i had a hotpoint model type vbxr1060. It had just a cap on agitator no extra bolts and used two hammers to get underneath the base creating leverage..

Work both hammers in (using the nail puller side) as far as possible towards the center of the agitator on opposing sides and use them to pull up and slightly outwards towards the sides of the basin. When you get it off you will see why this works as the agitator's base has mini clips that grasp the base of the air bell housing. hope this tip helps someone.

How do I remove agitor to clean the filter. Our clean clothes have a much lint on them when they come out of the washer

Most agitators in top load washers are push on and hold on tight that way. There is space for you to insert fingers under the base of the agitator. Put fingers of each hand under opposite sides under the bottom, grab tightly, and pull up under control. The agitator should come out. Hope this helps. Unless you have the written instructions in your book that says otherwise. Good luck and let me know if it helps!!!

My sleve is stuck in the spinning deal of my washer, how do i get it out?

Remove the rinse dispenser from the top of the agitator (spinning deal). Unscrew the agitator cap located on top of the agitator which is only hand tightened. Once the plastic agitator cap is removed from the top of the agitator you should see a screw which you will need a socket or an adjustable wrench to remove the screw. The agitator can now be removed by lifting strait up to free the sleeve. My only concern is how the sleeve became lodged under the agitator unless the tub became unbalanced from a heavy load. The other possibility could be the support for the tub is broken and needs to be replaced.

The washer ate my favorite Christmas table cloth. It is new, rectangular and no stray edges or hangy things on it. I have gotten half of it out but it is ruined with little holes all over it. I guess it is...

There should be a cap located on top of the agitator. Pry off the cap and under that will be another cap. You can reach in and grap this cap and remove it. You can now see a bolt located deep inside the agitator. You will need a socket and long extention to remove this bolt.
With bolt removed reach to the bottom of the agitator and lift up on the agitator to remove.
After cleaning reinstall the agitator in the opposit way it was removed.
Sometimes if the fabric is fine or thin it can get cought under the agitator and tear.

Need to remove agitator to remove lodged medallion

Remove the agitator top cap, and unscrew the mounting bolt part way. Pull up on the agitator by both sides of the rim, then finish removing the bolt after the device is loose. (Keeps you from smacking your face when the agitator comes loose.) Hope this helps.

CHANGEING THE BOTTOM BLADES OF THE AGITOR

The following advice is for replacing the "Agitator Dogs" on Kenmore and Whirlpool TOP LOADER style washing machines. This simple repair can save you a fortune in repair costs as the replacement parts are very inexpensive at a cost of less than $10. The replacement kit part number is 80040. You can order on line at various appliance parts websites, or use this part number and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer.

What are "Agitator Dogs"? These are small plastic pieces (usually 4) that are located under the agitator center cap that grip the agitator and turn it during the wash cycle. They can (and do) wear out dependent upon the use of the washer. If you are in the habit of doing large load sizes frequently, or wash large items such blankets or afghans, this can wear the teeth off and reduce the life of the agitator dogs.

SYMPTOMS REQURING REPLACEMENT: The agitator fails to turn during the wash cycle, or will not turn with a heavy load. The timer will run normally through all cycles, and you will be able to hear the gearcase (transmission) engage and run. The washer will also drain normally. The only indication that something is wrong will be the agitator slipping or not turning at all. The result will be clothes that do not wash properly and will sit on the bottom of the wash tub.

To replace the Agitator Dogs, follow these steps:

1.Remove the agitator center cap by either pulling straight up or gently placing a flat blade screwdriver into a slot located in the cap.
2.If the agitator is equipped with an inner cap with a handle, remove this as well by pulling straight up.
3.Remove the center bolt of the agitator. You will have either a 7/16" hex bolt or a recessed square plastic nut. If you have the square recessed type, use a 3/8" to ½" ratchet adapter to remove.
4.Remove the agitator by grasping the bottom flange and carefully pulling straight up. Try to keep all the parts assembled while doing this, so do not pull too hard. This will make this repair much easier.
5.Place your hand over the top of the agitator and separate the upper portion of the agitator from the lower portion and turn the top half over in your hand. The agitator dog assembly will come out in your hand.
6.With the agitator dog assembly in your hand, lay the rest of the agitator aside. Pay careful attention to how the dogs are installed. Remove the worn dogs and reinstall new ones. It's that simple.
7.With all the dogs replaced and the assembly still in your hand, place the upper part of the agitator over the top of it, upside down, ensuring the inner assembly tabs align correctly.
8.Now keep your hand over the agitator top to hold all the pieces together and turn the entire assembly over (upright position).
9.Carefully align and reinsert the upper portion of the agitator to the lower portion. Again, making sure the two pieces align correctly.
10.Place the entire agitator assembly back on the gearcase shaft and reinstall center nut. NOTE: DO NOT over tighten the nut, or the agitator will not spin correctly. Just make the nut snug. Reinstall center cap and inner cap (if equipped).

These instructions should give you the basics on how to perform this repair. Since there are various agitator types in use by Whirlpool and Kenmore, assembly can vary.

I have a pant leg caught under the agitator I cannot budge it. What can I do? I need help.

Check on the top of the agitator for a cap to uncover a screw or bolt to remove the agitator, if not you may need to unsrew part of the top of the agitator.
Either way if you can remove what is attaching the agitator, pull it up and out, then the pants should come out.

Fabric softener doesn't dispense

Fabric softener dispensers are notorious for getting all gummed up and clogged. Remove the dispenser cup and soak in some hot water to dissolve all residue. While you have the dispenser removed check under the dispenser cap in the agitator for gummy residue as well. Clean with hot water. There should also be an agitator seal cap under the dispenser. Make sure the cap and rubber o-ring are seated properly. Last of all, if the dispenser has a cone shaped cup inside, make sure it is inserted cone-side UP. The cup is designed to allow fabric softener to roll down the sides of it, NOT hold it. I hope this helps.
