How can I get the bobbin to wind on my singer 7422?

I have a brand new singer 7422 and the bobbin just will not wind. I put the bobbin on the pin and move it to the right (threaded up as instructed) and attempt to wind but it stops after just 2 rotations. The needle does not disengage and when it stops all the stitch pattern lights come on and flash and it gives some warning beeps. To clear this I have to switch the machine off and on again. The machine is stitching correctly just unable to wind the bobbin. Please help!

Your machine could be defective. Take it back where it was purchased.

SOURCE: Bobbin won't wind Singer 7422

Your problem lies with the main shaft that is to tight to release the bobbin winder mechanism, because of old grease and oil becoming sticky. A short term solution will be to remove the needle, in order not to hurt you, and then hold on to the needle bar with your left hand, while engaging the bobbin lever with your left hand. This will prevent the main shaft to rotate and your winder should work. In the long term, take it to your dealer to clean the oil and grease. You will not be able to open the machine casing yourselve, as you might damage the casing and or electronics.

Good luck!

How to wind a bobbin singer merrit 3130

To wind a bobbin on the 3130, first raise the presser foot and bring the needle to the highest point in its travel cycle. Next hold the outside of the hand wheel with one hand. While holding the outside of the hand wheel, turn the knob inside the hand wheel towards yourself (counter-clockwise if you face the right side of the sewing machine). Make sure that the spool of thread is on the spool pin with the spool's thread retaining notch to the right. Put the appropriate spool holder on the spool pin. Snap the thread into the thread guide in to the left of the spool holder. Lift the top cover to expose the bobbin winding mechanism. Snap the thread into the bobbin winder tension disc by wrapping it around the front of the disc and then bringing it back towards the bobbin winding spindle. The bobbin winder tension disc is to the left of the top cover. Put the thread through the hole in the bobbin from the center of the bobbin. Keep the hole up and put the bobbin on the spindle. Push the spindle to the right. Hold the thread above the bobbin and start the machine. After a few rotations, you can let go and cut this part of thread. Restart the sewing machine and let it finish winding the bobbin. Once the bobbin is full, move the spindle to the left and remove the bobbin from the spindle. Cut the spool thread to release the bobbin to put it in the bobbin case. Hold the hand wheel and turn the inner knob away from yourself.

Singer has most of their manuals available here: https://www.singer.com/support . I hope this helps.

Why won't my bobbin winder work

It could be the belt has snapped, or something else it out of adjustment. You can either get it fixed, or purchased an inexpensive bobbin winder for under $25 from WalMart online.

Cleaned machine - now can't turn wheel

Check to see if the bobbin winder on the top of the machine is over next to the handwheel, as it would be if you were winding thread onto an empty bobbin. The bobbin in the machine does not go up and down while you "fill" a bobbin.

I have a singer 7422. I am trying to wind the bobbin. It should be the easiest part and last time it was. Now when I turn it on nothing happens. I have the manual in front of me and have checked and...

To clarify, take the thread from the spool, through that little clip, loop it around the little metal button piece at the top (should have a diagram on top of the machine), then through one of the tiny holes in the upper side of a bobbin. Place the bobbin on the vertical bobbin winder pin/rod on top of the machine then be sure to snap that pin/rod all the way to the right to engage motor. Then try. Most of the time people forget to push the bobbin winder pin/rod to the right which leaves the machine in sewing mode rather than in bobbin winding mode. Easy mistake. ;)
