RV Rooftop AC Unit

I have an RV with a rooftop AC unit. Often when the AC shuts off the compressor continues to make a fairly loud humming noise and then all of a sudden it will stop with a bang (enough force the RV shakes). Turning the temperature control unit to the off position does not stop the humming. Last evening I had the thermostat set to the off position and about every 20 minutes the humming noise would start and after 10 or 15 minutes stop with a big shudder. It's obvious that something is sticking and not disengaging- but what? I'm a little confused as to why it does it when the AC unit is not even in the on position on the thermostat. Any ideas?

Sounds to me like your fan is hitting something
Remove the cover and turn the fan by hand ( with the power off ! ) See what it is hitting

I have my dometic Rooftop ac unit. The heatstrip/fan run perfectly but when I turn on the ac...the fan runs good but when the compressor kicks on it just hums.

The compressor coming on does make a slight "humming" sound which is normal. Is the unit cooling properly? Do you think it is louder than before?

We have a Coleman 7300 rooftop ac unit. When the

The fan motor is getting hot and going off on the internal overload in the motor.
This is caused by either a low voltage, a bad capacitor, or tight or dry bearings in the motor.
To check the bearings turn the power off to the unit, then spin the fan blade if it spins freely then the bearings are ok.
To check the capacitor you will need some kind of
tester or you can buy a capacitor and replace it, that's what a lot of people do. They usually don't cost very much.
To check the voltage you will need a voltmeter and measure the volts at the unit.
