Without knowing your model number here are some things to check, in order of difficulty:
1. First make sure you're using the proper nails for your gun. If your gun isn't specifically listed on the box of nails as compatable make sure they are seating in your gun properly. Some brands of angled nails are a couple degrees off from others and won't work in competetor's guns.
2. Check the entire feed path of the nails in the magazine all the way up to where the driver catches the next nail. Sometimes dirt builds up in the track or there could be a peice of nail stuck in there preventing the nails from getting under the driver. Also the spring on the feed shoe should have strong pressure on the shoe all the way up to the head and the shoe has to ride freely in the magazine.
3. If the gun is making holes in the wood the driver isn't broke but it must be straight and true and the tip square. If not it will miss or slip off the nail before driving it. The only way to check the driver is to remove the head on the gun and take the driver out. The piston & driver should travel from the top to the bottom of the cylinder without binding anywhere. Correct any problems you find or replace any damaged parts and your gun should work.

SOURCE: I have a 16 gauge finish nailer. This nails do not

Hello Michael. Let's begin with the nails you are using. If you have 15 gauge nails and you are putting them through a 16 gauge gun, they will not feed correctly because they are too large. Also, get finish nails designed for your gun. Ideally use Porter Cable nails but if not at least nails that list porter cable as one of the guns that they are compatible with.

Next, get a can of a penetrating lubricant called WD-40 and some cotton swabs. Disconnect the gun from power and also remove any brads that are in it. Then spray the entire chute and the sprin mechanism with a heavy coating of the penetrating lubricant and let it sit for 8 hours. After it sits spray it again and use the cotton swabs to remove and rust, corrosion, dirt, etc. Spray it again. Then load it up again making sure that you are using brads designed for your gun. Hook it up and try it. IF it is still not feeding as it should checked for other causes such as:

  • magazine is bent.
  • loader springs bent, worn, or kinked.
  • guide channel is too narrow.
  • guide is broken.

The most common ways that magazines become bent is through misuse. Workmen will often use the magazine of the nailer to "set their work." That's a nice way of saying that they use their nailer like a hammer and really beat it up.

Over time, this kind of use will bend the magazine and increasingly slow the guide until it doesn't move at all. A bent magazine should go to a shop and/or be replaced. Magazines can be especially difficult to reassemble, depending on the brand.

Check the loader springs for damage, and replace any that need replacing. Porter Cable makes a repair kit for this purpose.

If the guide channel has become too narrow, they can often becarefully widened by wedging a screwdriver between the groves and leveraging a little pressure to spread the groove.

SOURCE: 250B finish nailer has begun to shoot 2 nails at a time

try to regrind the driver blade, there should be a small nick on the driver blade where the nails are fed in, if the driver is to fat it will catch 2 nails, and cause nail jambs.

Bostitch framing nailer f21pl jammed 2 nails need to know how to clear the jam.

better to take it to a nailer repair shop, some nail jams can be very tricky, but if you are going to try to fix it. use a nail punch or other metal rod and with a hammer you might can remove the nails, DO NOT use a piece of metal that is larger than the nose.

Senco fram pro 602 nail gun firers but no nail just a hole from firing pin

First, check that you are using the proper nails. The FP602 needs Full Round Head nails with plastic collation. If you are using Clipped Head nails with the paper tape collation the angle of the nails not let the driver catch the next nail and drive it into your work.
If you have the correct nails, check the magazine to make sure the nails are feeding all the way up to the driver. If there is anything blocking the way or if the spring on the feeder isn't taught enough to pull the clip all the way up the driver won't be able to catch the next nail and drive it in.

SENCO ROOFING NAILER DOESNOT ADVANCE NAILS CONTINOUSLY

you have one of a couple problems. First the piston is not moving freely to advance the nails, the magazine might not be set for the nails being used, or the collation is not correct, or the feed pawl spring is broken, and the driver might not be retracting fully to allow the next nail to feed. What I would do is remove all the nails, and get a block of wood and open the door that holds the nails in place and look for free movement on the feed pistion and how the driver is functioning. If all appears OK unplug the air and check the spring on the feed pawl, also check to make sure not gummed up from asphalt, If the feed piston is not snapping it could be an oring or debris in the air hole feeding into it. Let me know if you need more assistance.

Gun fires, leaves good indentation, no nail. WCE working properly, took head apart to look for jam but nothing in there and am using compatible nails. Also oiled it but no luck. Was working fine doing...

Remove nails and use thin tool to push driver all the way up to top of cylinder. If the gun fires one nail then skips, the driver is not returning to top of cylinder. If no nails fire, then nails are not feeding into proper position. Driver must return to top to allow nails to feed into position. Most common problems are bent driver, worn piston oring and bad batch of nails(head too large). Good luck

Do I need to lubricate my Bostitch F21PL nailer from time to time? The reason I asked is, I got this new nailer. Installed Galvanized 2.5 inches nails from Bostitch and with the metal connector installed....

This is a fantastic nailer, very powerfull. Information about your nailer can be found below.

http://www.bostitch.com/default.asp?CATEGORY=BOS_FRAM_NAILER&TYPE=PRODUCT&PARTNUMBER=F21PL&SDesc=21%26%23176%3B+Industrial+Framing+Nailer+System

You should not need to lube the rails for the nails to feed. Your nailer uses plastic collated nails and should travel very easily inside the rails. I would remove all the nails and check for broken pieces of plastic from nail strips. Feeder should feel snug within rails and not wobble and spring should pull tight. When you install the nails do not release feeder against the nails with force as this could break the plastic strips and cause jam. Nail not feeding is usually caused by wrong nails, weak pusher spring or pusher guides broken /missing. Simple test for proper nails.
Place a strip of nails on the outside of the rails aligned with the edge of the rails and see if the first nail is perfectly aligned with the path of the driver. If the head of the first nail is angled back slightly from the path of the driver, the nails will not feed properly. Good luck.

My bostitch rn46 seems to double or triple shoot nails frequently. Am I not using the tool properly or could there be a mechanical problem with the tool?

if u are right nails for gun, then make sure when u put coil in and feed in front of firing pin the nails are straight with pin and connecting wires are not bent causing nails to fall out of alingnment.

Problem accessing nails

Hi, No you can't. They are two different feeds. The F33 uses tape feed and the N79 uses stick feed. The N79 is a basic wood frame nailer that uses 3 to 3 1/4 sticks, while the F33 uses up to 2 1/2 paper feed. The stick nails are the most common for the older nailers and on the box look for Bostitch as the brand to fit, as the N79 was sold under that brand not Stanley. This should Fixya!
