I have broken the aerial to my ALBA trdab2830 digital radio. Where can I obtain a new aerial

Check settings and see if it is setup for over the air broadcast

You may not have a digital tuner in the tv / vcr. There are digital tuners available that solve the problem. They connect to the digital antenna and then to the tv through A/V cables or thru a coax antenna input to the tv.

You may need to change the connection from a male to a female one.

Do you have an indoor or outdoor aerial?
Indoor aerials will not have the strength to pick up television broadcast signal.
Double check your connections, as you could have a loose wire or connection somewhere.
You might need to speak to someone who, can take a look at your aerial to see if it is configured correctly.
Also to make sure it isn't a problem with the aerial, do you have another TV that you can try using on the aerial. to see if you can get signal?

Unless you are on freeview through a Freeview digital box and using an aerial OR a satalite digital box fed by a satalite dish there is no way you can receive programs.
Thanks to BBC we no longer can get a decent connection unless we have a freesat box and new satalite dishes with more than one output cable. All this costs money and not a good service. I dare say they think we are all on their type of inflated salaries paid for by the tax payer. In short what ever you do it will entail the purchase of all new equipment.

It is always worth checking the aerial in any case of poor reception.

In the case of a standard mast-type aerial it is necessary for the mast to have very good continuity to the centre of the aerial plug, that the outer part of the aerial plug has good continuity to the aerial ground and thus to the vehicle bodywork and the two parts are electrically isolated from each other. A good independent radio ground connection also helps.

In the case of miniature aerials or those within a windscreen, a rear screen or rear quarter glass, the amount of signal available will be small and so an aerial preamplifier will be provided to boost the signal. The preamp might be part of the aerial or a separate unit fitted anywhere convenient. I once found one fixed to the front firewall behind the dashboard.
The preamp needs a good 12 volt supply and a ground as well as good connections to the aerial coaxial leads. The supply is usually obtained from the radio set so it is operative only when the radio is switched on. Sometimes a radio has a dedicated output but mostly the electric (automatic) aerial output must be used. If the preamp isn't working reception will typically be limited to a few powerful stations.

All marine VHF radios must be licensed. A marine radio station must also have a call-sign allocated to the vessel it is installed in. Shore based stations can also be licensed but only where they are involved in marine based activities e.g Yacht Clubs, Marinas, Harbour Masters, Rescue Services etc.
In the UK ships radio licences can be obtained from Ofcom. They are free for non-commercial users.
The user must also have a Marine VHF Radio operators certificate. This requires taking an exam. In the UK contact the Royal Yachting Association for a copy of the syllabus and local examiners.

The ICOM ICM55 is a good radio set and can still be used in an existing (marine) installation but it does not meet the standards for new installations as it does not have DSC (digital selective calling) capabilities - which all new fixed sets must now have. It is therefore very unlikely that you will be able to get a licence to install one.
To get it working you will need a proper marine band VHF aerial which operates in the frequency range 156-MHz. They usually come with cable attached but if a longer cable is needed, or the aerial is not cabled in the first place, use flexible 75 ohm co-axial cable with a copper core and braid/foil screen. Use proper aerial connectors (type F or BC are most commonly used and can be obtained from most good electronic component suppliers more cheaply than from a boat chandlers. Do not use push-fit TV aerial plugs)

You may need a better aerial. Digital TV signals need good signals or you can't pick up the full range of channels. Broadcasters and others are tending to keep their mouths shut about the expense of needing much better things on the roof than what many people use to get away with on analog signals. Even if you have a good aerial, If you have the 'brown' coax cable connected to it you could lose signal and stations. So it's best to replace it with Satellite coax cable FT100. That should stop a lot of blocking caused by interfearance by cars or those off road bikes youths ride around on.
