SOURCE: having problem copying from ADF

On this model, the Intensity needs to be set to 'Manual' to make copies from the ADF.

1. Press the 'Settings' button repeatedly until 'Intensity' is displayed
2. Press the left or right arrow until 'Manual Adjust' is displayed, then press the 'OK' button
3. Press the left button to decrease the intensity, or the right button to increase the intensity, then press the 'OK' button
4. Press the 'Back' button repeatedly to return to the Copy standby mode

To return to 'Auto Adjust', follow the above instructions selecting 'Auto Adjust' at step 2, and skipping step 3

SOURCE: My Canon MF4150 multifunction device

Hello I just figuered out this problem. When the paper is feed thru the ADF ( Automatic Document Feeder ) there is a plastic piece with a plastic film. Check to see if #1 that plastic film is clean and #2 That the Film is not bent and created a crease which is the line that shows when try to print or scan using the ADF. Hope this helps

SOURCE: Canon mp 980 won't even copy or scan if any

Sorry, but no. As far as I know that's how all of these all-in-ones work. If the printer doesn't work because the cartridges run dry, nothing else works either. They don't allow you to use the scanner as a standalone piece.

The top left "hinge" won't seat, therefore the top feed can't be used to fax, scan or copy.

It's possible that the hinge of the scanner cover broke. If that's the case, you won't be able to scan from the ADF (Auto Document Feeder). If the printer is still under warranty, please call our technical support team to have the printer replaced.

Error message with canon mx410 "cannot scan from adf"

I fixed this by changing the Copy Intensity from Auto to Manual
I had the same paper jam (caused by pressing Stop during a page going into the ADF), but I had pressed OK as instructed and the page was auto fed back out again. Then I couldnt copy from ADF after that.
I tried everything, and then started to retrace my steps of all the things I might have tinkered with to try and get the copying working in the first place, before the paper jam.
Then I remembered I had set the Copy Intensity from Manual to Auto (thinking Auto is always best). With hindsight, it now makes sense for it to be manual with the ADF as otherwise how would it load a page, use it to set auto density, and then reload it again for the actual copy to occur. This happens okay on the flatbed scanner as it can scan a little, work out the settings, and then scan for real.
Copy Intensity is reached on my Canon MX from the Menu button at the bottom left of the front panel. - Then press the right arrow twice to get to Color Intensity. - Hit OK. - Then right arrow from "Auto" to "Manual Adjust"- Then pick a setting or leave it as half-way between light and dark- Press OK
Now every time my ADF copying works a treat. Thats what I get for tinkering in things I didn't need to change in the first place. I was just trying to get a quick copy going from ADF to paper without saving a file up on the computer and then printing.

Just trying to make some copies...the display on the printer says

The ADF is the "automatic Document Feeder" it thinks something is in there when there isn't. check to see if something is stuck in it that would cause it to "think" that.

Document in ADF

None of these worked for me. Here is my FIX:
Open the part containing the rollers. You can see a white plastic part which stop the documents feeded into the adf. Lower this part and insert a page into the adf just a bit further than where it would have stopped from that white stopper. This forces the machine to feed the document and clears the error right away. You only have to do this once and from then mine worked fine.

I want to scan documents using the ADF, but I got a message on the LCD saying "Cannot scan from ADF". This shouldn't be the case since it's advertised on the box of my Canon PIXMA MX410...

Funny. Actually, very funny. Why? Because it seems that my previous printer was fully functional, but i got a new and better one from Canon, because it had this problem, which seems to be just a false error. The error should say "Please select the paper size to scan from ADF". That's how i just fixed the problem when it appeared on this new device as well.

So the solution (at least for me) is to manually select the paper size to be scanned.

Why is there a line on the left side of my copy when I use the ADF on my Canon Image Clas D1150? It does not do it when the flatbed is used. Please help. Thanks, Joann

When lines appear on copies of documents fed through the ADF, it typically means that there is some kind of dirt or foreign material on the glass that the document passes over. A different window is used when scanning from the ADF as opposed to the flatbed. The flatbed window is large, often much larger than a standard sheet of paper. The ADF window, on the other hand, is small and slender. It doesn't need to be large because the document moves over it (as opposed to the flatbed, where the document is stationary while the scanner moves under it).

The ADF window is usually situated next to the flatbed glass on the side of the scanner where the ADF takes in the paper. Open the scanner lid (as though you were going to make a copy on the flatbed) and find the slender piece of glass just under where the ADF would be when the lid is closed. Once you've located the ADF glass, use a mild glass cleaner and a lint-free cloth to gently clean the surface of the glass. If you are able to see the foreign material, you can remove it by hand, but be sure to clean the glass thoroughly afterwards, as fingerprints can also cause poor quality copies.

After the glass has been cleaned, test the ADF copy function and make sure the line has disappeared. If it has not, you may need to remove the slender glass and clean the underside (though this is almost never required, as the underside is protected from environmental debris).
