Re: Onkyo DV-CP500 DVD player stuck in standby mode (by 7 users)
Hello,
I hve this DVD Player stuck in Standby Mode.
You post the solution:
Bad caps in the power supply is causing this. C17
(10v,470uf), C17,c14 (10v,1000uf) and C18 (10v,470uf). Replace with
same capacitance values but 25 volt rating 85 C. Just fixed mine half
hour ago works great.

ooops meant C7 (10v, 470uf) NOT C17.
====================================
I am not clear on this solution.
Can you please re-specify. Do I just swap out the 3 capacitors?
Re: Re: Onkyo DV-CP500 DVD player stuck in standby mode...
Hi Yes, sorry just saw this comment. Swap out C7, C17 and C18 in the power supply. Also I would check if you are getting 9Volts to the motor control IC's pin 7 coming off of C005 on the Mechanism Board which is under the unit. The hole for the C005 cap was drilled into a very narrow section of the circuit board and has marginal connection at best.. mine stopped working because of this 6 months after I fixed the power supply.

I greatly appreciate the advice -- it is folks like you that make it wonderful for the rest of us without the troubleshooting skills. I can identify and solder, but finding the problem is not my strong suit.
In any event, I replaced the caps in question, and I still have the blinking standy problem. Any ideas on other places to look?

Hello
I Would suggest to try this, pull out the power cable from the wall socket, and while holding down CBL/SAT, press ON/STANDBY. and plug in the power cable again.
hope this will work.
To switch your Pioneer DV-400V DVD player back to an interlaced video mode after selecting a progressive scan mode and losing picture, follow these steps:
Switch everything off.
Switch the player to standby.
Press and hold the Standy/ON button while pressing the |<< button.
This resets your Pioneer DVD-400V player HDMI output format to 480p.
Hold the "VCR/DVD" button while pressing the "On/Standby" button, and the receiver should enter "Standby." Turn it on again by pressing the "On/Standby" button. Bear in mind that this will clear all the presets and other settings - but it may be those settings that are causing the problems.
try resetting defaults Place DVD player in standby mode Push in the stop button on the hardware unit and keep pushed in Push in Standby button on the remote provide while doing the above Then put into standby mode again insert your DVD and see if it changes. All Happiness
Seems like a manufacturing defect with the way C005 on the Mechanism Control Board was mounted. The positive lead hole on the circuit board for this electrolytic capacitor was drilled into a land that was too narrow for the lead size. The result is no +B to the motor control IC's(LB1641's) on this board. Jumper with a suitable wire from the positive lead on C005 to pin 7 or 8 of the LB1641. This fix obviously assume you know how to take the unit apart (really very simple really if you look at the unit carefully). The board is accessible underneath the entire mechanism.
Had an Onkyo DV-SP301 that would only intermittently come out of standby. Found faulty resistor R2 on the power supply board (board ORTP-865), it was nominally 5600 ohms, measured much higher. This after checking most p/s caps! R2 runs warm when unit is in standby, so you may want to replace with a higher power rated resistor. I used same rating but 10 k ohm instead, worked fine then.
Do a hard reset. Unplug it from the socket, the DVD and leave disconnected for 4 hours. This may or may not help, but it is a necessary step to restore all internal software codes to their factory settings.
Not sure I can solve, but maybe help. I am having a similiar problem. However, make sure you Analog Audio (RCA type) cable are connected even if using Digital connection between the two. They use those cable to send the Commands (Mentioned in the documentation).
If you did get yours to work, please give me a hint... I upgraded mine from a 603 to a 701 and haven't been able to get it to work since.
