My refrigerator does not seem to be cooling properly. It is a 253 series side by side by Kenmore, made by Frigidaire. I noticed that the frig & freezer were warmer than usual this morning (refrig was at 40 degrees). I have a feeling that it hadn't cooled all night long, until after I had opened the door a few times. This is not the first time I have noticed this. I have had freon added, replaced the defrost timer and the defrost thermostat. It is not freezing up on the coils. I don't know if it waiting to turn on until I open the door is normal or not, but the frig seemed a little too warm to me, but it cools fine when the fan kicks in.

I had a similar problem. One thing that I need to know is is it cooling at all? If everything is operating, but no cooling occurs, you may have a bad board. This controls all of the components. Getting it replaced could be pretty pricey. Good luck, and please rate.

Your refrigerator has an Adaptive Deforst Control located in the control panel inside the fresh food section part number 61005988 is is the most likely reason for your trouble. Picture #13 below.

SOURCE: how do you replace the defrost heater in a ge frig
I have a GSH 22JSTC SS that has a frosting problem. After a series of hairdrier sessions and conversations with the know-nothings at GE service help, I took out the defrost heater and noticed it had burned out. I bought another one and after a few days, that too burned out. (all black like a bad light bulb). What is my next step? Testing the Thermostat? Could this be a timer issue? Where is the timer located? Any imput is greatly appreciated. I am one frustrated GE owner. Thanks

I can help you diagnose the problems with your GE. Several things can cause these symptoms. All you need is a voltage meter patience and a want to, to repair and do it better than a paid technician. In most cases with the PSS26MSRSS the defrost heater is the cause for this. Look into rear of your freezer and back wall. Is Ice or frost building on rear wall? If yes unplug and prepair to remove contents in freezer compartment. Remove rear panel in freezer and use hair dryer to defrost ice until the defrost heater is visible. BRB , Sea Breeze

It sounds like one of two things, either the evaporator fan is not running(fan in the back of the freezer behind lower back panel) or the bi-metal thermostat that may be in series with it is open..
Also some newer models use a lower voltage fan motor, use to be all were 120 volts........
It is under warranty for one year so call for authorized service to repair it......
(all of the cooling on the refrigerator side is done by air circulating from the freezer side, also possible there is ice blocking the air flow somewhere)
hope this helps
