My wireless name (SSID) and security settings keep changing on their own!

I have installed my wireless router, set security settings, entered the encryption key, and then I'm able to wirelessly connect to the internet (via laptop) for approximately 1-3 days. Then, the wireless internet access is lost. When I go into the Easy Link Advisor and check my settings, the SSID has changed, the security settings are gone, and the encryption key shows a new set of numbers/letters. Why is the SSID changing on its own? To troubleshoot this, I have entered my IP address in the web browser and changed my SSID back to the correct name; however, nothing seems to fix the problem.

I had a password to the router, but it was the "admin" default one. I have now reset to a strong password and will see if this works. Sometimes the easiest answer is the right one.

    Thank you.

I know there was a reason why I'm a Netgear house. Are you setting a password to get into the router? A strong password?

Maybe someone is fooling with it.

Thank you for the helpful advice. My previous router (same model) was struck by lightening, and I replaced it with this one. However, I never had this problem with the prior router. I have called Linksys tech support number several times and was disconnected and then left on hold for a ridiculous amount of time. I like the idea of asking for a replacement since I have my receipt and original box. Thanks again!

Create a unique password on your router : Once you have logged into your router, the first thing you should do to secure your network is to change the default password* of the router to something more secure.
This will prevent others from accessing the router and you can easily maintain the security settings that you want. You can change the password from the Administration settings on your router’s settings page. The default values are generally admin / password.
Change your Network’s SSID name:
The SSID (or Wireless Network Name) of your Wireless Router is usually pre-defined as "default" or is set as the brand name of the router (e.g., linksys). Although this will not make your network inherently* more secure, changing the SSID name of your network is a good idea as it will make it more obvious for others to know which network they are connecting to.
This setting is usually under the basic wireless settings in your router’s settings page. Once this is set, you will always be sure that you are connecting to the correct Wireless network even if there are multiple wireless networks in your area. Don’t use your name, home address or other personal information in the SSID name.
This is sufficient to secure your router from other to use it.

How do I secure my Dynamode BR 6004 WG1 Iam a

To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, you need to at least configure the wireless router with encryption, and the SSID, and change the router's default login password.
Please follow these instructions :-

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA). The encryption key can be easily set up using a passphrase (it can be an alpha numeric phrase or words).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.
To access the Internet you need to connect the DSL or cable modem to the WAN (Internet) port on the wireless router.

Manual for WBR14-G2 router [6.2 MB] in pdf format:
http://www.smc.com/files/AG/MN_SMCWBR14-G2.pdf

Keeping others from connecting to your router:
1. Have an "wired only" router login access or for this router "change and disable your SSID". This way you avoid that others can login to
to the router changing your settings: See page 48 of the manual.
1.1 Wireless Network Name (SSID): change the default name SMC
to "any private name" ( and remember for later login )
1.2 Broadcast Wireless Network Name: change from default ENABLE
to DISABLE .

2. Make a secure wireless encryption key for your connection:
see page 87.
2.1 For most secure key select WPA / WPA2 only and SAVE SETTINGS .
2.2 See page 91 for entering and saving your secure key: the password
that must be entered to get access to the router.

I WANT OT PUT PASWORD TO MY WIRELESS BROADBAND ROUTER SO ONE CAN ONLY OPEN OUR COMPUTER AND SELECTED PEOPLE CAN ONLY USE THE WIRELESS CONNECTION.HOW CAN THIS BE?

Log into your router by opening your web browser software, for example Internet Explorer. Type in the address field the ip address of your router. The ip address depends on the manufacturer, but it should look something like this - 192.168.1.1 . A window should appear asking you for your user name and password. If the router is set to default settings, the user name should be ADMIN and the password should be ADMIN. Hit enter. This should bring you to your routers configuration window. lynksisssid_thumb.jpgSSID screen.Go to your wireless tab / basic wireless settings. Enter a SSID (wireless network name). The SSID may be on a sticker on the router or you could make one up. Choose a wireless channel. Disable your SSID wireless broadcast. Save or apply changes.
linksyswep_thumb.jpgWEP / WPA screen.Go to your wireless tab / wireless security. Choose enable. Choose either WEP or WPA encryption, the latter is a more secure choice. Choose 64 or 128 bit encryption, again the latter is a more secure choice. Enter a passphrase and write it down so you can enter it when it is called for when installing the wireless software on your wireless computer. A hexadecimal WEP/WPA key should be generated. Save or apply changes.cheers
