I reinstalled XP on IBM T41, now battery won't charge. Could this be Driver Problem

The laptop works with battery only and it drains the charge , however when I try to charge it, it won't charge. Works with AC Adapter only also. From Battery information I see that the current is zero and the wattage also. Let me know if you need more info. Please help! Thank you in advance!

Sounds like you need a new battery.
It's not just a battery in a case, it also has a small circuit board inside to control the charging etc, if that's faulty it won't charge, or if it has dead cells in it won't charge.

    Stuart,

Thanks for your response! I tried three different batteries and they all work on another laptop, which is T42. I think T41 and T42 use the same battery, correct?
    Any other ideas, please?

SOURCE: ibm thinkpad no power with ac power adapter but works with battery

If prior to this it works intermittently with the AC adapter, it means the connection from the adapter power unit to the motherboard was lost and this is a typical problem with the Thinkpad. It needs a re-soldering job and not something that one can do without a proper repair manual on how to open the laptop. Try googling your problem and find out if someone has the same experience and managed to resolder by him/herself.

Dell Inspiron e1405 Laptop. Why won't the battery charge?

If the battery is not charging,it can be that the battery itself works properly, but the system doesn't indicate that

the battery is charging. in order to fix this problem, you will need to reinstall the battery management software by

using Device Manager
1.Open Device Manager
Right click on My Computer->select Properties->click Hardware tab->click Device Manager
or if you're using Vista or windows 7,type "device" on the Start menu and select Device Manager
2.Expand the Batteries category
3.Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select

Uninstall .
WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes.
Please let me know if it's works or not and thanks for using fixya

In my IBM thinkpad T41, I opened control panel, after click System icon, in hardware part, for monitor , I reinstalled its driver( computer shows it will do this automatically), then computer crushed,...

Severe Windows corruption - the driver you removed has prevented the reboot and corrupted all the other video files. Try booting in Safe Mode - in there the default driver should be selected. In there try to reinstall the driver again. If that fails the only thing left is to do a repair install (if you have a retail install disk) or a full reinstall - if you have a recovery disk.

Thinkpad T41 with XP-sp3: No sound / working fine until yesterday

Hi. Try plugging in an external speaker just to test the issue. It could be just the speaker of the laptop is having the problem. If you were able to hear the sound from the external speaker then the problem is the built in speaker of the computer. If there is no sound coming out to external speakers. Try to reinstall the driver of your soundcard.

No wireless adapter found in XP on ThinkPad T41

Hi,
Boot your laptop into windows. Go here to IBM Lenovo support and download the Cisco Wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter driver >>>>>>>

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-42683.html

Once downloaded just execute the file as it is an .exe file, you will the wireless icon appear in the system tray (bottom right of the screen).

T41

Make sure the downloaded driver is for XP and not Vista and they are specific to your model laptop.
After downloading the driver file, when you run the file it unzips the file and copies it to your hard disk (take a note of the file folder it creates on your hard disk). Then you need to go to that folder and run the setup file and it will install the audio driver.
This also applies to all the drivers you download and wish to install.
