Density sensor out of range

Hp 4600 printer with Density sensor out of range message. Is this a part to replace or something I can clean.

  • danhole Oct 23, 2008

Thank you for the fix. It did not correct the problem. I have now discovered the printer works fine when color is included in the document being printed. If you print with only black text, the black color fades on the right hand side of the page. If you go into the document and highlight one letter, anywhere in the document, the page will print perfect. I am completely baffled.

The problem: A page with all black text completely fades on the right side of the page. If you take the same document and highlight any 1 letter with any color then the page prints beautifully. attached is a picture of the printout. changed driver and did not help.

The density sensor is located in what is called the Colour Registration Detection Assy. When you open the front door where the ETB belt is, the assembly sits were the door closes at the top on the printer side.

It can get toner on it, so check it and give it a clean. But do not touch it with your fingers.

it sounds Like you have a driver corruption. I would go to Hp's site and download the latest drivers and reinstall the printer on your system using the new drivers. i recommend not using the PCL6 drivers

Where is the density sensor on hp cm1312 colour laserjet?

thank you for your advise. we are having this problem, light black printer, colours are not good. we thought of the laser scanner, but thats above...as opposed to looking down, where toner can fall during print.

Our Trusty steed HP 8500 has just started to print a thin twin line and other spurious marks on the top side of prints. Today i replaced the drum / fuser / other bits but no difference any ideas?

I have looked at the manual but there are so many possibilites! You can download the manual here and go to page 148 (PRINTING QUALITY PROBLEMS).

Initially I would follow the directions for clearing drum related errors:

Dark or white lines or streaks in all colors, including black.
Print the configuration page five times. The defect should clear
with continued printing. If the defect does not clear, turn the
printer off and on to reset the printer’s density calibration. If the
problem persists, replace the imaging drum. For more
information on replacing the imaging drum, see the installation
guide included with the drum kit.

Then clean the density sensor.
To clean the density sensor
1
Open the upper right door.
2 Use the brush located next to the
sensor to remove all toner particles
from the sensor.
Note
You can also use a hand wipe to clean the
density sensor. To prevent scratches on
the sensor, do not use any paper products,
such as tissue or paper towels, to clean the
sensor.
3 Close the upper right door.

It could possibly be a problem with the transfer drum.

I am sorry this is not of much help!

Hp 4600 error message 51.2c The message appears as soon as i insert the cyan cartridge. It was working properly but after printing 2000 pages (mostly blue color) there was noise and after that the message...

errors in the 51 range are laser scanner errors, it's saying either the laser is out or the scanner motor is not turning, or not turning fast enough. A good shop repair.
