1. Push the paper far inside / use the priority tray.
2. Check for deterioration of the rubber on the main pickup roller (Replace if needed).
3. Ensure that the main paper pickup roller (view inside the printer from the priority input slot - use a torchlight) is rotating when print command is given / 'check' button is pressed after the error message.
4. The printer will make three attempts, one after the other, to pickup the paper (you should be able to hear the sound of main motor and gear train rotating - if no sound is heard the main motor / gear train is bad).
5. If the paper pickup roller does not rotate - a component in the gear train needs attention / replacement.
6. The gear train is behind the formatter inside the right side cover.
7. Service manual can be downloaded free on the net.
mcdevito75 here, In laymans terms yes, it sounds correct, there are a series of gears between the main spring and Balance assembly (hairspring) These series of gears control the movement of the hands, and release of the mainspring, they are called a gear train, the shafts that hold these gears in place get oiled, when the oil gets old it"ll dry up, thus takeing up the space these gears (shafts) need to operate the gear train, thus makeing the watch Fast / Slow. Cleaning and oiling restores the proper movement to the gear train of the watch, the tech. will also check and regulate (Time) your watch.
The brake cam driver has an ear on it. They tend to break off and this won't release the brake. If that is good then you might need to check the clutch. Look for a thin liner or oil on the clutch. If that is the case you need to change the tranny cover seal. If that is good then inspect the main drive gear and pinion. These gears get smooth and won't grab. If that is good then remove the main drive gear and look for a smashed down spin pawl. If it is smashed down it won't catch a boss under the main drive gear and spin. Training Manual
The motor will have a plastic plate screwed to it and the gear train attaches to this plate with tabs. You just twist the gear train and motor apart and they will separate.
Basically teflon is what is known as an ultra high wear molecular material, meaning it absorbs impact and is slightly spongy so when there is pressure it reverts back to it's normal shape and does not wear rapidly. Using teflon with steel, basically the steel absorbs into the metal teflon molecules over time that create a slippery surface for both preventing wear, slick50 oil additive is a good example. Using a soft material with a hard material such as chain will result in the chain eventually wearing out. A good example is a rubber hose rubbing on a piece of steel, the hose is unaffected and the steel turns shiny and wears into a groove first.
Use a tiny amount of light weight oil (sewing machine oil will work) on the outsides of the motor shaft,., Use a tooth pick to apply. Of cours you'll need to remove the plastic body first. Another suggestion if that doesn't take care of the noise is to place a tiny bit of vasoline on the gears that are exposed when you take the plastic boy off. While your doing that you may want to place some vasoline on the gears inside the driving truck or trucks (dual drive). Pay attention when removing the plastic bottom covers from the truck. Use a small screw driver to pry one end of that cover loose and the other becomes loose and then remove to expose the gears.
The hot roller unit is the fusser unit Its main purpose is to stick the image toner to the paper with heat try removing the unit when its cool remove th paper slowly by turning the gears slowly.....give extra care not to damage the Teflon wipe the Teflon of with alcohol to remove stains of paper....dry the alcohol properly put everything back and u are ready to print... if the Teflon is damaged ull need to replace this unit......
