LG dvd player DP281B shows disc error

The LG BP420 does not play VCD's.

Check the model specifications for your device. Some players will only accept DVD-R and not DVD+R or not DVD+RW discs. I know it all seems the same, and it's very frustrating, but many companies restrict the type of discs they will allow. My player does +R but not -R. It should still be able to read DVD discs that you made yourself, but they will be of a different type.

Sounds like a bad laser does it play cd's fine?

it normally caused by lens getting dirt,,,,first clean the lens with soft cloth then try inserting disc i think the problem will be solved....

Sounds like either a dirty or weak laser/lens. Pls try cleaning with a CD disc cleaner or manually using cotton buds (if the eye is accessible).

My friend suggested I clean the dvd optical reader lens inside the player with a fine brush (like a camera brush with a blower bulb). This seemed to help immensely. I'm not certain if this is just a temporary fix, but it seems to be ok so far.

its aged and old, all pordable dvd players stuff up eventually, get a new one.

Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.
