Whirlpool dryer heats but does timer does not stop dryer

Please help. Our dryer has no problem drying but recently it has decided to not to stop when it's supposed to. Basically, If we turn it on, it will go forever until we open the door... what the heck is up?

    I have a LER5636KQ1 circa 2002 that has the same "runs forever" problem in all modes. What troubleshooting can I do on this to make sure that it is in fact the timer before I spend the money for a new unit? (Timer = $70, thermal limit switch = $25, thermal fuse = $15)

I have an lg dryer that won't power off. I've taken it apart and cleaned lint and sensors. It will do a dry cycle then continues spinning no heat when program is over.

if you have it on time dry and it doesn't count down the timer is bad but it should stop when you open the door unless you have a broken door switch too,just open the door and push in on the switch with your finger,it should make a clicking sound,if not the door switch is also broke,if you have the timer on auto or more or less then it won't move without heat.on auto the heat comes on when the dryer reaches temp. the heat shuts off and the timer will advance a little,then the heat starts again and the timer stops,it will do this until the clothes are dry by using a sensor instead of time.

do you have it on more or less?,if so the timer will not move unless there is heat, do you have heat?are the clothes drying ?if you have it on time dry the timer is bad try moving it past the spot were it's sticking and see if it counts down

If the timer advances to OFF and does not stop you have a bad timer. It could also be the cause of no heat. Replace the timer first. If still no neat replace the glow bar ignitor.

Element heats, dryer tumbles, no heat in drum, never shuts off
Hi, If the dryer heats but will not advance in either time or auto cycles, you need to change the timer.
You can test to see if the timer is getting voltage. Remove the top rear panel and locate the two wires going to the timer motor. There should be 120V when the dryer is running in time dry.

Gas dryer does not provide heat or air
If you don't have heat the timer will not advance in auto dry. The first thing to check is the glow bar ignitor part number 279311.

Whirpool dryer won't heat up
You need to replace the thermal fuse and the timer. A bad timer will over draw a thermal fuse and cause it to blow.

Please remember to unplug the dryer before servicing

Autodry cycle never stops
hi thanks for the question ther is a thermostat on the air duct at the back of the dryer it has 2 wires at ends and 2 wires in the middle smaller ones this thermostat opens to turn off heat and the small wires on this thermostat when the heats shuts off then power goes to the timer and not before if it shuts off on timed dry timer is ok i would vacuum the dryer make sure all the vent right to the outside is clean as air flow restriction can cause this problem thanks the appliance doc

Whirlpool gas dryer is not hot .burner ignights but it is not hot enough
If your dryer seems to run forever, it could be because of a clogged vent or internal ductwork. Your dryer may have an automatic cycle that turns off the dryer when the clothes are dry. It does this with a special thermostat or moisture-sensing system.

Normally, this is what happens during an automatic cycle:

  • The thermostat tells the dryer to heat until the interior of the dryer reaches a pre-set temperature--say 135 degrees.

  • When the dryer reaches the pre-set temperature, the thermostat tells the timer to begin advancing. (If there's a moisture sensor, the timer advances only if the moisture content of the clothing is low enough.)

  • The timer advances until the interior cools, then the thermostat tells the timer to stop advancing, and tells the dryer to start heating again.

This cycle continues until the clothes are dry. But…if the vent is clogged, the dryer may never reach the proper operating temperature, so it doesn't send the signal to the timer and the dryer continues to run indefinitely, even if the clothes are completely dry. To fix the problem, clean the vent and/or internal ductwork.

The timer should advance in the time dry cycles if it does, it is fine Its common for them to not in automatic cycles when there is no heat I would call for service unless you have basic gas appliance knowledge , as it is dangerous If you decide attempt i can tell you what to look for Please rate my help .....Thanks
