We are having the same problem with our ge washer. When there is 6 minutes left it makes a clicking sound for a minute then stops for about 2 minutes then finishes the load like nothing was wrong. The lights also dim while clicking. We're wondering what justy0811 found out about their washer.

Had the exact same problem. Washer would wash fine, but would drain very slow, not spin and then the cycle would pause and not restart. Read this chain and fixed the problem while at home for lunch. Take the front access panel off by the screws underneath the panel. There is a white cap facing you. Unscrew slowly with a bucket underneath to catch the water that did not drain. Once it comes completely out, you'll see all the junk in the filter. My problem was washing my dogs kennel blanket. She is shedding really bad and the filter was full of dog hair. Cleaned the filter, screwed it back in and it ran perfectly. Saved a $75 service call from GE. This is something that should be in the owner's manual.

One common problem area is the clutch assembly. The clutch is built on top of the motor, the motor drives the clutch and the clutch assembly drives the rest of the washer. The clutch gets very noisy when parts inside are worn out. The shoes lining that drives the inner drum of the clutch wear off and you will get a metal on metal sound. Clutches often can be rebuilt, but sometimes they are too worn and replacing the whole clutch is the best repair. Please use this link here for clutch replace and repair info. The belt and pump may be the next items to check for noises. How to access the washer. Clutch repair help.
