Snowy picture with catv 1 mono on screen

The other night the tv was working fine i turned it off in the dark with the remote and didnt hit the power button first. i hit a bunch of other buttons before finally hitting the power on off button. now, when i turn it on, there is nothing but a snowy screen with the words catv 1 and mono on the screen. tried putting it on channel 3 , as i have satellite cable hooked up in the back of the tv , still nothing. it is a tru flat 27" RCA tv.

Snowy picture on my vizio tv

I have lost two answers I have given. Sorry.
Check the input on the remote, it has to be in the correct place. When it is right. Go to set up on the remote, find picture and adjust the colour on the screen. Hope this works for you it has for me. If not restart the router and exchange box if you use that and check input again and the set up.
lastly try other channels, it can be the broadcast is not working correctly.
all the best

Hello. the particular setup we are dealing with is

Hi Guest, I can definitely help you with that, however if the screen is snowy we won't know if it's working until we get a picture.

To do that try changing TV2 to channel 60 and 73. If it only goes up to 69 put it on 60, if it goes to 73 then good. If still snowy, then go down to the main television and follow these steps. Menu -> System Setup(6) -> Installation(1) -> Modulator Setup(5). Go to TV 2 Out and change mode to Air if you put the TV2 on 60 and Cable if it's on 73 and select Done to save.Check the second TV for picture, and if it's still not showing then check cabling.

Once you have a picture back the remote should be working with it, if not feel free to post here!

Picture goes out right after turning on, have to

My 3 year old Sharp LC-40C32U would start up fine but within a minute would go dark (audio continued fine). For a while I could turn the set off and on again and it would be fine, but over time this became less effective. My solution, which has worked for a week now, was to a) unplug the set's power cord; b) after 3 minutes plug it back in and turn the set on; c) on the remote hit MENU and slide over to SETUP (3 clicks to the right if the screen is dark) and one up to RESET; d) hit ENTER and follow the prompts. This puts the set in it's factory configuration so you will have to rescan for channels. Worked for me.

Cannot change channels in digital mode

Solution that worked for me:

Beware: Although the process should be safe, it technically voids your warranty.

Enter the service menu:
1 - turn of tv with remote
2 - press and release in the following order on the remote: Info, Menu, Mute. Make sure remote is pointing at the tv
3 - turn on the tv from the remote
4 - you will see the service menu. using the down arrow on the remote select the Reset option. Using the right arrow button at this point will do a hard reset.
5 - Wait a few seconds, turn TV on
6 - you will have to rescan analogue and digital channel but it should be working now.

Mono setting?

What channel is it and when they tune in that channel, is the picture nice and clear or is it grainy and snowy before the screen goes blue? On some sets, if the signal is weak, the picture will go blue. This is called Blue Screen and is there so you do not see very poor, grainy and snowy pictures. Some sets will have an option in the menu to turn the blue screen off.

TV

If you are using cable and the signal is connected to the TV through the regular cable wire, then the TV must be in TV mode to work properly. If you are using a cable box with that TV then the TV must be on channel 3. If the screen shows AV 1, then the TV is in the AV mode (red, white and yellow RCA jacks), and you most likely accidently hit the INPUT button on the remote. Pressing 0 3 or INPUT a couple of times on the remote should bring your picture back.

Snowy picture, no reception?

Hi, Your question "Do bigger TV's need an aerial booster or something?" - No, normally it should work straight out. Boosters are used for fringe location not bigger TV. Pls a questions and some ideas: 1. "TV worked fine the night before" was it hooked up to Cable or aerial? 2. If cable, it is necessary that you change the settings of the TV from cable to STD or Air or something like that. Normally this can be done via the remote, menu, setting, set-up; 3. If aerial, you would probably need the assistance of a qualified service personnel. Apparently something got loose inside the Philips TV, not a big problem because you can still receive (BBC 1) but not the other channels, possibly a loose wiring, a disconnected connector. 4. If you feel comfortable working on it yourself, unplug the tv and the aerial, open the back and poke around. Trace from the aerial jack, the lead wires used, the connector to the main circuitry. Wiggle the wires a bit for any loose connection. 5. If #4 is not to your liking or if you do not find anything or no significant improvement after closing it up and running it again, guess you're back to #3. Hope this gives you some idea. Lots of luck and kind regards from the Philippines.

Picture

yes it could ba the cable itself even, but i suspect more the tuner circuit or tuner itself may have bad solder connections. Here is another test for you to try, plug another dvd or vcr, or xbox etc. into the back, using one odf the inputs. See if this works like the built in dvd. if so it will be more likely bad connections in the tuner or surrounding circuit. good luck.
