My screen keep showing the Card Cover Open Error even though the cover is closed. What can i do

Somewhere on the door will be a small piece of plastic which when the door is closed makes contact with a microswitch which tells the camera the door is closed. Either this switch has broken or the piece of plastic has. Somewhere within the memory card receptacle you should find a small hole where the piece of plastic enters when the door is shut. Switch the camera on, leave the door open and push a wooden match or something of a suitable size made of plastic into this hole (be gentle) if the "door open" sign clears then the problem is with the prod built into the door. If it doesn't clear then the problem is with the switch. Actually this switch can be disabled or continually shorted out if it proves to be faulty. I have had a camera come in for an unrelated repair with the hole blocked up with plastacine to hold the swich closed. IT WORKED Stu

I used a version of the matchstick or plasticine solution to fix the "card cover open" problem on my Olympus E 330. So far, it's working fine. On the inside of the movable card cover is a plastic "finger" or plunger. When the card cover is closed, this finger makes contact with a metal switch. The switch is a silver colored pin which is recessed in a square hole. Closing the card cover forces the finger onto the pin and pushes it down into the hole, turning off the "card cover open" message. People who have jammed a matchstick or plasticine into the hole on top of the pin have forced the pin to stay down permanently, canceling the "card cover open" message permanently....at least until the matchstick or the plasticine fall out. I cut a piece of plastic the exact size of the square hole. I fit it into the hole over the pin. I pressed it down so that friction would hold it in place and keep the pin depressed. Next I cut a piece of rubber band, a little bigger than the square hole. I forced the rubber band into the hole over the plastic square. The rubber band acts as another way to hold the plastic square down and also serves to allow some flexibility or cushion when the card cover is closed and the finger is pressed down into the square hole. I'm hoping that the cushion will prevent the finger from breaking off. If it does, maybe I'll go to the matchstick or plasticine. Maybe even some crazy glue. But as I said earlier....so far, so good.

Before you begin my disclamer is that I am not responsible for your actions. It's all you. If you break it cuz I am unclear or you don't understand it's still your fault. Also there is a capacitor for the flash on the back of the circuit board that will bite you if you aren't carefull. Always remove power from the unit before working on it and remove the memory card as to not damage it. Even if power is removed you can still get shocked by the capacitor. I know cuz i just shocked myself. DO NOT TOUCH THE CIRCUITS!!! While you are performing this proceedure also you will notice a small battery at the top of the cammera as the lense faces down. you may choose to replace it at this time while you have the cammera open if the cammera is older. If you are shocked by this device you need to tell someone else. Even if you feel fine. That way if you fall over from heart failure a few minutes later... at least they will know why and that you are an idiot. It is advised that any time you recieve a shock you should seek medical attention. Ok lets get started...

I have the olympus camedia and as far as the match stick guy goes, this is a good trouble shooting technique but to find the switch more readily as people seem to be having a problem, on this specific camera look at the back where the view screen is. the door for the memory card is on the bottom right of the cammera. open the door and on the right side inside the door you will notice that the plastic is shaped funny. if you use your imagination while closing the door just a little you will notice that the funny shaped plastic receides down into the cammera a little. You will not see a micro switch because olympus covers it for cosmetic reasons. Chances are you will also not notice a switch arm to be moved. This is because your switch arm broke off. That is why you dont see anything for this piece of plastic to push in. they are flemsey micro switches. For the camedia camera you will notice some screws around the outside. Not all of these must be taken off. you only need to remove the 2 black screws on the sides that will be obvious cuz they are the only ones and the 2 silver screws on the bottom of the cammera right below the lcd display. This will alow you to remove the black backing where the lcd display is. Remember never force anything too much but gently lift the cover off from the bottom while applying a slight hinging motion to the top of the cammera. do not hinge it up all the way but once the bottom is away and slightly hinged at the top the pull the top away slightly and it will come appart. If you hinge it all the way back you will break the plastic connectors at the top of the cammera. These connectors snap in so you may have to use a little finagling to get them to let go. there are wires attatching the switches of this pannel to the circuit board that connect near the top of the cammera near the shutter switch so don't pull the backing fully away at the top. BE CAREFUL!!! now you will notice as the cammera sits lense down with the backing off that there is a grey piece of plastic about as big as the end of a cuetip with a loop at the top right. This loop is being held down by a silver screw. remove the screw and pull the grey plastic cover off the micro switch. now that you have exposed the micro switch test its operation physically. If it appears to not have the switch arm comming out the right side then it is BROKEN!!! ~~~~ OPTIONAL FIX!!!~~~~
remove the switch cover by prying off the silver top. You will now notice innards of a broken switch... who cares. continue by prying the switch off the board with a small flat tip screw driver. PRY GENTLY with even force on the board or if possible by applying the prying force agains the plastic camera body IF IT DOESN'T WANT TO COME OFF THEN DONT APPLY SO MUCH FORCE YOU WILL BREAK THE BOARD... JUST STOP! there is another fix and dont try to desolder the switch, it would prove to be a mistake. if you are successful in prying the switch off the board, then you will notice you left 4 small solder joints exposed beneath the switch in a square pattern. Solder the 2 together at the bottom. If you are unable to remove the switch then solder the part of the metalic left side of the switch to the metalic right side of the switch. Before soldering any of these test the connections by carefully making sure there are no metalic objects shorting out the circuit board anywhere. Also make sure you do not put the memory card in. It would block the testing and could be damaged. And generally just be careful. Now put the batteries in and turn it on and short the areas together for testing. You will notice the warning change to a "no memory card installed" the tingle means it's working. Turn it back off, remove the batteries and solder the tested areas together. This will also make the cammera work when the memory card storage door is open. DO NOT REMOVE THE CARD WHILE THE CAMERA IS IN USE... EVEN IF THE CAMERA IS NOT WRITING TO OR READING THE CARD AT THE TIME!!!!!! this could damage the card or result in data loss. Replace the cosmetic grey peace if possible and re install cover... YOUR WELCOME. if you find you cammera is different... welp, sorry. I don't have that one. but it should work about the same in theory. You'll just have to figure it out yourself. good luck!

The match stick solution is too primative and is usually only temporary. i carefully took the camera apart. I removed the top ribbon and also the card, separated the two halves enough to remove the top small circut board by removing the one screw holding it down. Locate the micro swith. If it has fallen out it is fairly obvious where it goes witnessed by the two small holes in the circuit board. You will see 4 square areas with solder on them. Simply cut two pieces of some small wire and solder each one to short across the squares from left to right,not up and down. Put the camera back together and the error does not occur anymore. It will not warn you if the door is open, but who cares

Actually, it seems to me better in this case to contact the manufacturer/importer of this kind nevertheless common same problem by users as to see the law on hidden defects to take all recovery itself because it seems so common that here yet an adjustment should be made.
Hidden defects can be handled by a longer warranty period, by decision to sell an orderly product.

Put in a piece of rubber that fits the hole where the micro switch is located.

What hole are you talking about to put the match stick or plasticine in please? i really need help with this because i am making a video for my best friend of is in france for her birthday and it is all on there and currently lost, it needs to be posted in the next two days...

My FE-140 had this exact problem....I just got a whole lot of Blu-Tac and used a phillips head screwdriver to stuff in into that little hole which says next to it "Push to Eject."

Camera is working fine now!!

Flatten both the push button of the switch and the plastic 'thingy' just a little bit (with a sharp knife) so that they make flush contact again. Problem solved on my C-350.

Ok, this may be kinda simple but on the card drive thing it looks a litle like mis pack-man it shows the mouth open and closed close it when its open pinch it close it and lock it and that shpuld work
