SD cards have a slide switch along one edge.
The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

SOURCE: sd card error on canon powershot s3

I have had a similar error which turned out to be a corrupted memory card. It was replaced under warranty with no questions asked. Causes may be static electricity discharge or a high humidity/temperature combination. Either way get a new card.

SOURCE: card locked

Have you tried looking at the memory card? Sometimes there is a switch on the card itself that slides up and down to lock, or unlock the card for usage. Hope this helps! (It should be white, and a semi-translucent plastic.)

SOURCE: Hi. My Canon Powershot sd400

Hi!
You have to unlock your memory card. All memory cards have this small lock mechanism on the side.

Make sure that the slider is on the UNLOCK position. If it's already on the UNLOCK position and you are still getting the same error message, try to set it to LOCK, then set it back to UNLOCK position.

I hope that helps.

Good luck and have a nice day!

You need to go to the menu screen, scroll over to the tools option, scroll down to format and format the memory card. I just had this same problem and this is what worked for us!

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

Is this a lens error or an error with the memory card? People seem to see this error for both cases.

If it occurs while recording a video or taking a photo:
  • Save your photos & videos onto your computer, then reformat your memory card.

If it is a lens error:

Best of Luck!

You connect the camera to the computer with a USB cable, or if you have a card reader on your computer you plug the memory card into the card reader slot.

My memory card is locked. How do I unlock it?

Hi,

To remove the write protect lock, take the memory card out of the camera, face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab up to unlock it, it will be at the side of the card like this 59a6de4.jpg .

I have a brand new canon powershot sd1400 and it says memory card error. Please help! One answer I saw was: Go to the menu screen, scroll over to the tools option, scroll down to format and format the...

You may try to install memory card into an external reader for a pc and try to format that way. Place card in camera and connect camera to computer via usb cable and try to format that way. I had a canon that the only way to read the card was when it was in the camera, if I tried to put memory card in an external reader it would not recognize the format. Canon does some wierd things with their stuff. Good luck and if this was helpful please vote. Thanks.

Memory card error. how do I fix it?

Assuming it's not a "write protect" error, and your description doesn't sound like it, the first thing to try is to reformat the card. If possible do it in the camera, to ensure it's formatted with the correct file system.

I have a Canon Power shot sd1400 is. I have about 300 pictures that I would like to delete all at once instead of one by one. Is that possible?

Yea, i got mine today. So press your Menu button and you'll see two lists on the screen. It'll automatically be on the camera one but switch over to the wrench and the hammer one. Now scroll down until your at the option Format and it should say at the bottom of the screen (deletes all pictures off memory card) or something to the effect. And ur good to go! Hope this helps
