TZS-2 Hi, I have a problem with TZS-2 Russian night vision. I can not light the lamp, just a little light around phosphor plate. I measured voltage multimeter which gives a voltage converter, and I realized that if disconnected and has 725 V, and when it is connected to only 80 V. Can someone please advise me how do I fix it? It is the faulty voltage converter? Please write me at my e-mail: [email protected] Thank you Peter (Czech Republic)

The voltage should be good. It is possible the Infra-red emitter tube might be at fault.

The night vision can work under a full moon, so test the vision part to make sure it is working correctly. If you have an infra red/IR remote control for your TB set, you can test the might vision using that remote to see if the night vision is working.

You can use a second working unit to see if the illuminator is actually working. The illumination is not visible light without assistance.

Thank you for your advice, I tried to look at night than anything to see. my TZS-2 is completely dark when turned on, only a small glow around the phosphor plate. Is there any way to measure the lamp in the device? Defective other component? What is the operating current for the lamp? 725V or 80V?? I have something to measure and write off?

The open circuit 725 volts is good, your meter is loading the circuit some. The
The difference you see is normal. The 80 volts with tube in circuit is also good.

The imaing tube has a limited life, on average about 200 hours.

Check for oxide corrosion on the conductors, copper oxide can become a diode type resistance. Especially to chassis or body of device. It can be enough to disrupt the circuit.

Turns on but cannot see anything

Hello, there could be a number of problems but 90% of the problems with these Russian manufactured monoculars, binoculars, scopes is the the image intensifier tube. First they are cheaply made, they don't taken much abuse, and if any bright light such as, street lights, car lights, turn on the NV monoculars during the day light hours could and would total damage these Russian manufactured tubes.

I hate to tell you but there is a good possibility that the image intensifier tube is bad, sorry. Night Owl Optic and many other US companies use cheap Russian manufactured night vision devise to sell; of course, they make a huge profit on these NV devises.

There are a lot of countries in the world that manufacture NV monoculars and other NV devises. Some are good and most are just slap together.

If you want a good night vision monocular be prepared to pay top $$$ for them.
Made in the USA, Europe, England, and even in China.

List it on eBay as Night Vision Monocular and under condition: broken for parts.
I wish you luck. GB...stewbison

I have put new batterys in my nv-100 still nothing happens, the illuminator lights up.

I sound like the Russian manufactured image intensifier tube has gone bad. This Kalinka Zenith Piezon Russian NV monocular was and is manufactured in Russia. Have tried to use piezo handle on the top of the monocular. This is suspose to eliminate the battery for operation by using you hand and finger to pull down on the handle many time to charge up some capacitor and diodes.. GB...stewbison

I have an ATN MK238 that will power up, like the power LED will come on, but the screen will not power up when you look into the reticle. I checked the tube by unscrewing the front lens and it is a uniform...

Hello, it has a none functioning image intensifier tube, or shorted ccfl. All the electronic components are manufactured in Russia. Does this let you know what wrong with you ATN MK238 scope now...it's cheap. I don't fix these ATN MK-258 anymore, it to hard to find parts. ATN is no help, they won't sell parts. It will have to be sent to ATN for repairs at approx. $200+ for repairs. I do have a couple of Russian image intensifier tubes, that work. The last MK238 I repaired, I had to build a ccfl (cold cathode flourscent Lamp) inverter, replace the coil and voltage multiplier, and fit in a confine space with insulation from electric arcing.

Here is infor for you. The ccfl can be purchased. They are companys that will make you a voltage multipliers. So, here is information: voltage to ccfl (6 volts) then the voltage goes in the inverter
to convert it switching DC voltage (5.5 volts). Then the coil (transformer) step it ot about 930 voltage to the voltage multiplier (which has four stages---the first stage with double the voltage to 1860 volt to the second stage which double it, then third stage which double it, then finally to fourth stage which doubles the third stage to about 15KV (hight voltage here, it will bit ya here, but no current--amps.) this will the cathode on iit, then light up the tube 18mm film that is coated--it will turn green)

Now, this the simplies way of tube operation, it more complex than that. The power supply for this Russian image inten. tube is sealed in dielectric jell, and the voltage multiplier is sealed in epoxy with the tube are none repairable.

There are quit a few other NV companies, that use Russian tubes and electronic. They cheap but functional. The bottom line here is the profit. Don't get me wrong here. There a few Russian compies that make some very good gen 2 tubes. If you can replace the tube will gen 2 tubes and powere supply. I hope this helps, Richard.

The camera still works but when its dark in the room nothing shows on the monitor. If we turn the light on it works. It seems like the night vision feature is broken. I covered what looked like the light...

  1. It should go to automatic night vision. If this feature is not working then the answer to will a flashlight work the answer is not very well. The light will have to be on the child and a flashlight does not have much light behind it. Perhaps if you put a small lamp on a dresser that shines on the area the child is, this may work enough to keep an eye on him/her. A flashlight not so much. Hope this helps.

Contact Night Vision Optics they sell these Russian night vision devise under the brand name: Night Vision Optic and they have a logo. There are only companies in the US that manufacture night vision stuff. Also, some of the US companies do use US image tubes and other electronic components, and maybe US optics are used.
