Take up spring is very important. theres a screw on the right side of the post located on machine body. loosen and remove entire tension device. don't lose the tension pin in the center. now look at the tension post and you will see a small screw that when loosened will allow u acess to the take up spring. study the way the spring in place.the end of the take up spring fits in a slot on the post. remove old spring and slide in new one making sure the free end of the spring goes in the slot on post, put the other piece back on and twist till u have med. tension on the spring them tighten the screw, put tension pin back in center of post and slide device back in machine. take up part should be arounf 10 oclock. tighten screw to hold tension device. u can change the spring tension by putting a screwdriver in the slot where the tension screw is located. turn right for more tesion. sorry but this is a hard repair to put in writing because its simple but requires ome experience.

SOURCE: problems when sewing over heavy jean hems

Are you using the correct type of needle? have a word with your needle supplier and explain the problem. Different threads and different thickness material need different top and bottom tension adjustments.
Can I suggest sew one thickness material at a time with tension adjustments for that thickness. Then change the tensions and do a batch of thicker material.

Why wont my Juki DDL-8700 form a stitch?

machine is out of time and u probably have burrs on the hook since you broke the plate with a needle probably from pulling fabric and bending the needle. you instruction manual will tell u how to time machine and its really very simple. all u have to do is take off feeder plate, loosen the 3 screws that hold the hook then lower the needle with the wheel until the needle just starts to rise. bring the loose hook point to i/16 " fron the needle and tighten hook screws. machine must be tilted back to do this whole operation. it helps to have a short screwdriver to tighten the hook screws. remove burrs with lite emory paper stroking in the sale direction as the hook.

How do you thread a Juki DDL-8700

Hi Vikki,
Here is an image of the threading up for your model Juki.
10_11_2011_11_25_10_pm.jpg
You can down load a manual for your Juki from their website, its a bit tricky to find so I'll paste the link for you.

http://www.juki.co.jp/industrial_j/download_j/manual_j/DDL8700/menu/pdf/instruction_eg.pdf

just wait a bit for the file to build to your screen because its a large file.

I hope this helps you get using your machine.
