Model ZHSC02PP-- Mini fridge no longer cooling (18-24 months old)

This small mini-fridge no longer cools our drinks. Its only 18 months old. Still gets power and attempts to "run" but not cold. What can we do?

Not much to do, if you've turned it up and it don't help out any, check it on the evap core (big tank in back hole) if any lines are frozen, its low in freon, if not and its not even getting above room temperature then it could either be the switch relay or could be completely out of freon and its not worth fixing, cost more than getting a new one. I found a GE at big lots for under 100 and it has a seperate freezer from the fridge (like a full size shrunk) that works nicely and i've had it for quite some time. Around 3 years i guess.

Has it sat any amount of time without usage? Check and see if any of the 4 walls is cool, it could be that the fan isnt working.

Does the compressor start up? It has a thermal cut off and a current stareter relay that tend to go out causing the compressor to do nothing without power in it.

The compressor being hot means it is getting power to it. 2 possible problems. The compressor is locked up internally (too expensive) or the start relay or overload could be bad (approx cost for both parts about $45). You have to decide if you want to risk $50 and still find out you have a bad compressor. Most service techs have a direct test harness to hook up to compressors and make them run without the start relay and overload but not everyone knows how to do it properly.

If the compressor is actually running and there is no refrigeration, I would suggest it has a gas leak and that's why it isn't cooling. Depending on what type of refrigerant is in it, it may not be worth repairing as its only a small bar fridge? Check the rating plate to see if its R12 (Older fridges) or R134A . If the unit is less than 5 years old, it may be operating on R32 or R600 (Butane refrigerant gases) If its only a couple of years old, it may still be under Manufacturer warranty. Most fridges carry a 2 year warranty on everything and up to 5 years parts warranty on what is known as the "Sealed system"

My frigidaire mini fridge won't cool. Ice builds up on one of the wires on back and the cooling unit (I think) gets very hot
It sounds like it could be a restricted Capillary tube, which would require a sealed system repair by a professional repair person. A new mini fridge might be the way to go.

May be low on freon or cloged expantion valve. You're going to need a certified tech to check and repair. Maybe it's time to look at the cost of repair verses replacement.

Koolatron Mini Fridge Overheating
Check the condensor fan behind the fridge which is designed to cool the compressor/gas line by blowing air over the condensor. When this fan motor seizes or stops running, the gas gets very hot and because it is skin cooled too, the outside of the fridge also gets very hot. You can overcome the problem temporarily by putting a standing fan behind the fridge, blowing onto the compressor and under the fridge untill you can have the problem rectified.
