Toshiba 57H83 57inch blown out blacks

I have a toshiba '57 rear projection who is 8 months out of 4 year extended best buy warranty. The other day when turning it off, we noticed a low light bright spot at the bottom of the screen that held. It appears that the contrast control is at a loss suddenly. Less separation between whites and blacks. The screen can't seem to hit black levels well and the image seems blown out on the white ends. In the black ends it gray instead of white. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Toshiba 65hx81 65" Rear Projection tv. black & white color/green

Yep, your problem is a relatively easy one to repair if you know how to solder. You better repair it before it blows the fuse though. There are two capacitors in the main power supply that are coming loose and need to be re soldered. There is a Toshiba service bulletin about it. They are marked C809 and C810 on the main power supply board. Good Luck

My toshiba 57 inch rear projection tv every once in awhile makes a loud pop similar to a spark noise and the screen either goes black or flickers. do you have any suggestions what is causing this??

THis could be one of the CRTs (Color Tubes) is bad or the high voltage is leaking somewhere.
Toshiba projection TVs have history of yoke problems.
My guess is one of the CRTs is arcing inside. This TV has 3 CRTs red, green and blue. Replacing a CRT is not easy or cheap to buy if you can find it. If you like this try calling a TV technician to track down the high voltage arcing. DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS BY YOURSELF.

Best of luck my friend.

I had the same issue with my 57 in. Mitsubishi. I fixed it by buying a new projection bulb. The Mitsubishi manual indicated this was the fix for my Mitsubishi TV. Be advised that new projection bulbs are not inexpensive. My TV works like new once the projection bulb was replaced.

More of a Toshiba statement.

My 52 in regza has a vertical line on the right side as well just under 2 years old, out of warranty and to costly to repair, I paid $2500 as well. The TV has been on its stand since the day I bought it and has been moved once.
I have read of others who have this problem as well, just google toshiba regza red line, or vertical line
I Too will never buy Toshiba products and I will tell everyone I can about the **** LCD Toshiba

Needs a new light engine for toshiba 62hm195

A new light engine for any DLP TV ranges from $800 to $1200. I would advise not to repair. Cut your loses. Buy an extended warranty with any new TV. It will pay for itself.

Toshiba HD made a popping sound and went out.

Check the lamp to see if it popped. Try replacing it. Also check the web for class action law suit for these sets, Toshiba has an extended warranty for lamps for certain units.

Toshiba 56hm66 New lamp worked last night, wont boot up again

You now have a defective lamp ballast board. It sometimes is the root cause of lamp failures in these sets. The problem here is that Toshiba does not sell the ballast board independently from the larger, more expensive light engine assy. Call Best Buy back and get a servicer out there. He may have to take the ballast board out of your TV and send it out for rebuilding.
