Hello, my name is tony and have an issue with restoring my windows 7 pc back to factory settings. I caught some type of virus that occasionally re-routes me to other websites. since then my laptop isrunning irregular and been acting very weird. It has to be a virus or something even though my security suite says everything is fine. So finally, I decided to go ahead and restore back to factory settings. I made my recovery disks and proceeded to follow directions with the restore. I used the restore manager from my program list. After about the third step, it said that it had to restart in order to continue with the restoration. So then, my pc will log off to a black screen and it will just sit there. It will never reboot, so eventually I will just shut it off and turn it back on. It will then boot back to windows as if nothing ever happened. I also tried holding down F11 at start up but it does the same thing. Just sit there with a black screen. I also tried putting in the 1st disk and restarting, but my pc acts as if no disc is in the drive. I also tried restoring to an earlier date, but it gives an error about my hard disk is not functioning properly or something. I really don't know what else to do please help?
U have a nasty bug in there. Your best bet is using another computer download the latest malwarebytes program onto a usb stick. Using the hiren disk boot up to the fake desktop, navigate to the usb stick via explorer and run the program and get the latest updates for it at same time. Then run it and clean out the crud that is in the machine causing havoc. When you reboot go back into the program and permanently remove the deleted items that are in the quarantine area.

Hi there!!
I believed that you already tried your best. However, I have this suggestion, try to reformat your laptop and do it all over. But make sure that you have all your drivers and OS with you!
Perhaps, you have missed something! believe me, I had the same problem as yours. Good luck! take care!

Another way is to log in as administrator not under normal log in.
press F8 on boot, select safemode, log in Administrator, no password.
log into to help and support, click on restore system etc.

Well first things first, knock your bro upside the head for doing it in the first place. If your virus software is slowing your system down them you change virus programs, add ram or get another hard drive. YOU DON'T COMPRESS YOUR HARD DRIVE. Compression has its place like for folders or files but not complete drives.
First thing you need to do is backup your SystemState, docs, favorites and emails using the backup tool in accessories>system tools>backup
Once that is done then you have some room to breathe and you can try different things.
What happened is your probably compressed your Master Boot Record that is why it is not booting properly.
Try these things in order:
1)since you already tried system restore point then
1) Boot into safe mode (F8) and try Last Know Configuration if doesn't work then
2)Put your Windows CD in and change the BIOS to boot from the CD. Let the CD run a few minutes until it ask to setup or Repair, choose R
This will put you in Recovery Console at the DOS prompt. Type fixmbr if not working try again and type fixboot. That is suppose to fix your master boot record.
3) Unfortunately if none of the above work then its time to re-install your operating system. Since you backed everything up, see above, then it should not be no big deal to re-install Windows.
Good luck, if you have any questions let me know..pls rate this solution

If your Compaq Presario has major issues, restoring it to factory defaults may be the best course of action.
There are a number of situations when completely restoring a computer to its factory settings is the best solution, including resolving virus infections and corrupt operating system files.
Back up all of your user data to a USB thumb drive, external hard drive or other device.
The restore process will destroy all of your data, so this is vital to do.
Turn on your computer and open your CD or DVD drive.
Place the restore CD that came with your Presario into the drive and restart your PC. If you do not have a restore CD, you can contact Compaq to order one.
Allow the computer to boot up from the restore CD.
You will see a series of messages guiding you through the restoration process, as well as several warnings that all data on the computer will be erased.
Continue the restoration process, and follow the prompts as needed.
You may need to locate the license key for your version of Windows; that key should be located on a label on the top of the computer case.
Hope this helps
