Dead player revived with cheap part

Hi all, Got this DVD player from the Goodwill for $3, but it would not power on. Opened it up and saw that a 1000mf cap in the power supply section had leaked (black tar-ish looking liquid around its base), so I desoldered it and replaced with an equivalent cap I had hanging around the parts bin (watching the polarity), and voila, it worked. Cheap fix for a junky player, but at least if the kids trash it it won't be a big deal. GENE

The cap is enough to cause this---note the value on the side and the + and - AND replace it with a higher voltage rated cap than the one you found.

Philips DVD player ... No Power?

Yes! that is the most logical, the power supply board is usually where cap will be located, sometimes it will have a slight bulge at the top telling you it is open.

Got new Palm TX out of box (although it is actually a few years old, but was never opened). charged for 3 hrs, but as soon as I unplug power cord, it goes dead. Battery appears not to work. found another...

The batteries have a shelf life. So they can die just from sitting and not being used.

What you can try is charge it and discharge it a 'few' times (few can mean 20-30 or more or less) it can revive the battery.

Replacement battery's are cheap $15 and up. So if you got these free it is worth putting one in.

My dvd player is dead.

You check the SMPS (Power Supply Section) and verify the voltages from the various terminals of the transformer accordingly check the bridge, voltage regulator, and filter circuits. If any of this parts are gone replace the appropriate parts not the all.

DVD player won't power on!

most of capacitors in the p/s board are probably bad, if your fuse is ok then its probably cheaper to buy a new one Julio [email protected]

I got the ch-DVD 300 no power anymore, I opened and I saw the fuse blown out, where can I get a new one? it says T2AL-250V and measures 3/4 of inch.

This is not a good solution but it is one I have used for extreme situations.
Take a single strand from an old cheap lamp cord and solder it across the ends of the fuse. This will create a new fuse of approx. 1 amp. I made a safe cross country flight in a private plane by making a temporary fuse when a new one wasn't available.

My Memorex DVD player will not open or come on

I just fixed a Memorex 2042 DVD player. Before the fix, the standby light was lit, nothing else works (with remote or buttons on the player panel). Opened up the machine, saw a capacitor bulged (1000uf/10v). Did some soldering work and replaced it. All is fine now.

Sony DVP-NC600 Multi Disk DVD Player No Power

Did you check the fuse on the main board?? Just be carefull when testing this unit with it open as it has line voltage on the power transformer. Unless you get a multi-meter and a diagram showing you the power supply your dead in the waterman. Sorry but you need the proper equipment to work on these things. This problem might even be a bit harder to find for A tech as its a man made problem I would advise at this point to put it together abd take to the shop. Good Luck
