Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Hello! I've been using my Compaq Presario (M2223AP) Laptop for 2 years now, then all of a sudden I saw 2 vertical lines on the screen. 1 line is a clear red line (but not so thick & dark) located about 1/3 from the left of the screen while the other is a very faint (thin, almost transparent) line located about 1/5 from the right of the screen. I think it might be a monitor problem. I'm not very good in fixing computers so I have not done anything about it yet. I'd appreciate your help very much. Thanks! I have a dell inspiron 9300 with a straight vertical line running down the very center of the screen. How can I fix this? Is it a problem with the hard drive or the actual screen?

"A TRUE DELL STORY" For 4 months have one thin vertical line (one pixel wide) 3 inches from right on Inspiron 9300. Now second line same size but one inch from left. After I ran diagnostics that Dell suggested on line, I called Dell and #1 "Dell Phone Answering Expert" said, "I promise it could be fixed over the phone for $49". I bit on the hook, paid with my card. #1 connected me to #2 "Technical Expert" who told me to do the exact same steps I just did before calling #1....... then #2 said I needed a new monitor. BUT would have to connect me to #3 "Sales Expert". I said "WHOA! Give me your boss, I want my $49 back. You did nothing." #4 "Boss" is busy with others right now...... "WHOA! I'll wait." #4 says that is the process and I said, " #1 is a liar. Give my $$$ back now." OK OK OK in two weeks. FORGET DELL. Last purchase from the only supplier of their stuff. No motivation to provide better service. PS Computer has 2 lines. Should I expect a total screen failure or just one tooth falling out at a time over the next months? WHOA IS ME

Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.
Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.

I have had the same problem with my dell inspiron 9300. Not too long after I got it a line at the very top appeared and then a few months later another line appeared. It is like two small lines that are transparent and there is some kind of background showing through. Not really a problem but it is aggravating to look at.

SOURCE: Vertical lines in my laptop screen

There can be 3 possible reasons for this
1)Screen connector cable is loose. You can try to re-seat it and see if works.
2)display card problem. Connect your laptop to an external monitor and see if the problem persists. If it does not then
3)You will need to get a replacement LCD screen.
Hope this helps!

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor?
This would ensure that it's the screen and not the video card..
If you do that and you receive a good picture then it could be something as simple as a loose video cable. Or it could also mean something like a bad video card or the expensive one, a bad screen.

if this line is there during boot up then it is a monitor problem usually. but if it is not then it is a problem with your windows files. you could try reinstalling your windows from the disks you were given with it? otherwise i will look into it. email me if you need more help. [email protected]

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

My understanding is that you have 2 laptops with the same problem, if that is the case, you need to replace the lcd. When you have lines on lcd's, that is a sign of a bad lcd.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Hi,
what i recommend you to test is to press behind your monitor and see that the line goes off or not.If it does..that mean you have a loose connection,it can be fix.Incase no then you have problem with your LCD.Normally if its LCD problem then you fix this problem, all you have to do is change the LCD.
goodluck,takecare.
