Player skips over some songs

To adjust the copy protection setting on your ripped music files,

1. Open the Tools tab at the top of your Windows Media Player.
2. Select Options and then select the Rip Music tab.
3. Under this menu, you will be able to choose the type of music file as well as the quality with which you would like to save the music.
4. Make sure the box next to Copy protect music is left unchecked.

Your GPX player has the ability to play music files in both the MP3 and WMA format. Make sure to use MTP when transferring copy-protected WMA files.

  • Deselect "Copy protected" options in WMP10 or WMP11 before ripping CD.

How to deselect "Copy protected" options

1. Run WMP software.
2. Right click Ripping on the top menu, then select Tools / Options.
3. Click Rip Music.
4. Make sure to deselect "Copy protect music".

The songs you are trying to transfer are in the wrong format.

2. Open Windows Media Player

3. Click on the icon of your Mp3 player on the left-hand side of the Library

4. Click on the Songs, Tracks, or other Music Folder

5. Find a song or songs that you want to delete

6. Left-click the song once to highlight it

7. Press the “Delete” button on your computer’s keyboard

Make a note of skipping tracks & check these tracks play ok on the PC - this will rule out corrupted tracks.
Skipping of entire tracks can be due to DRM copy protected tracks (purchased on-line). Some players will not play DRM tracks.

You can check for protected tracks.

• In Windows Explorer, go to the folder where the tracks are stored on your PC.
• Click on View -----> Details
• Right click on the header bar in the right hand window and select protected. (If protected is not listed click on More)
• Tracks will be listed with No or Yes under protected. Check your skipping tracks are listed as No, under protected.

If none of this helps, install and run the Philips Device Manager. Select the repair / restore option and follow the on-screen prompts. This will format the player, ruling out a corrupt file system on the player, and re-load the firmware.

Sounds like the files are DRM copy protected.

You can check for protected tracks.

The HDD1830 is not compatible with protected files, although your PC will play them ok.

Write the songs to a CD (or a CDRW) first, then re-rip them to Windows Media Player/iTunes/whatever as mp3s, or unprotected WMAs.

Honestly it's easier to burn and re-rip than remove the copy protection. When you burn it to a CD, the DRM goes away, and you'll have a new file that actually plays on your player.

your player does not support any protected files, Protected files transferred to the player will be skipped without playing.

I had this problem also and I think I figured it out because now my music will play. I took the songs I had from limewire, highlighted them all and clicked "save as", opened it with windows media player and on wmp I took my playlist and named it on there....first I synched the songs under "sync" and they would upload on my player but they would NOT play. I got the same stupid error message. So after they were uploaded onto my mp3 player, i dragged all of the songs onto the right side to make a sync list AGAIN and clicked start sync, all of the files said "already on device" so I kind of got mad thinking it still didn't work...when I unplugged it and tried to play the song, they ACTUALLY PLAYED. I fought with this for so long and contemplated about throwing the stupid thing down the toilet but for whatever reason, synching it in two different ways in that order, it worked and it stopped saying "error:can't open this file"...hope this works for you and anyone else having this problem because I know how frustrating this got for me. hope this helps. I restored settings to default factory settings and has been working and not skipping the songs. Restoring to factory settings does not delete any of your data/songs

MP3 players i have seen so far are only able to play WMA,Wav,MP3 files. Other files are skipped. Also, there arent many MP3 devices that can play DRM protected Files. Your might be it.
