You may have a problem with the motor. this is the only device that would turn off the whole machine for 3-5 seconds.
there is this contact switch that would be held close by the motor once the motor is running normally until you reach the end of cycle.

but if there is problem with the motor, it has this over current device that would turn it off.
once off, the contact that it was holding to keep the unit running would open up and stop the unit from running.

did you leave your lent filter out a couple of times? Sock or lent wad may be caught up in the fan that forces air through the dryer.

Dryer only drys for 16 or 26 seconds

Sounds like a high limit is tripping. Maybe blowing, or vacuuming out your vent line that leads outside. You may have built up lent inside of it.

My dryer is working, but it's not heating

pull the vent line off the back of dryer and see if it helps, also the duct that the lint filter slides into could be loaded with lint, when was the last time you cleaned out the dryer?sounds like from what you said when you had the top off it worked better because you had better air movement with the top off.go out side and check the vent,if it's a long run from the back of the dryer to the outside vent i use a leaf blower to blow out the vent line, you also need to vac out the inside of dryer where the motor is,if you have a shop vac blow off the motor and blow through the inside vent to clean out the heating duct and vac out the back of the drum, you should take it apart and clean it out once a year so the dryer will run correctly

Frigidaire GLEQ2152ES Dryer Won't Power UP

IF you find that you have only a 3 wire feed for this dryer (and the reason for the 3 prong receptacle)...then you can not properly install a 4 prong dryer cord to it. You now have 2 choices....either rewire (assuming that it is a 3 wire supply) the entire run from the dryer breaker to the outlet location with 4 wire (typically a run of 8/3 with ground having a black, red, white and bare ground)and install a 4 prong dryer receptacle to match the configuration of the new dryers cord.....OR - you can remove the 4 wire cord and replace it with a 3 wire cord....re-using the ground strap - IF it is still in place.

Dryer doesn't dry

YES, most defintely. This typically causes the dryer to overheat and eventually blows the thermal cut-out or heating element.

SYMPTOMS:

Dryer runs, but does not heat - possible bad heating element or thermal cut-out.

Dryer does not run at all - possible bad door switch, blown thermal fuse, timer or drive motor.

Does your dryer exhibit any of these symptoms? Please post back and let me know.
