It help diagnose problems with your computer A solid green light means the computer is operating normally. A solid yellow:- the power is operating fine but your computer not processing data. This could mean there is a problem with the CPU or another component on the motherboard. A blinking yellow light: power supply is receiving power from the wall, but not functioning properly. This generally means the power supply itself is bad and should be tested or replaced. A blinking green light means the computer is in standby mode
Ignore the posts above - the button and green LED light on the *back* of a Dell 755 are to test the Power Supply. Even if the system is powered off (but plugged in) then pressing the button activates the PSU and gives a green 'ok' light - no light means the PSU is faulty.
The diagnostic lights (which others refer to) are for the system in general (memory, CPU etc.) are on the Front of the box on Dell 745 and later - these do not include PSU faults.

You should see a set of four lights on the back of the computer. They are dianostic lights that can give you a better idea of what's going on with the computer. Press the power button and look at how these lights are displayed. Here is a link to the errors assiociated with each light code: http://mss.net/Links/DellDocs/OptiGX260/UserGuide/solvprob.htm#1167139

SOURCE: Dell optiplex won't Boot-up.. Orange light on motherboard
Have the same problem. Tried swapping the power supply with a known good one. Didn't help. So the orange light definitely doesn't just indicate a bad PSU. I'm gonna say this MB is a gone-r...

Open up the case and remove any add in cards and memory modules. Try to start up by adding these back one at a time until the unit stops booting normally. The light combination is not one recognised in the user manual so I am guessing you have a non-descript fault with one of your components. Be careful when you open the case as to not disturb the ribbon to the motherboard which controls the power, I have had a very long experience trying to get one of these reconnected!

I doubt your fans will cope ... especially if you have the small form factor (SFF) case ..
So think about fitting additional / higher speed fans (to blow hot air out of the case) before adding extra power hungry cards ..
